We see more and more packaging that is designed for meal sized portions
Less waste at retail level and less waste at household level
Any potato farmer here that want to pack his complete harvest in packets of two?

About 5 years ago growers in the Netherlands faced a challenge.
How to sell an ever increasing crop of small tomatoes
One of the growers wanted to enter the snack food market
Why not, it is such a big market and a small % market share was all he needed
But how to do it?
He saw a popcorn shaker at KFC and that made him think…..
Peppers?
Cucumbers?
Tomatoes?
And even if they wanted to buy these. Will it be available?
I will tell you an amazing story of how growers convinced millions of people to snack on Fresh Food
He decided to sell his small tomatoes in this cup with a domed lid.
People thought he was joking
They said it will never work
That it is too expensive – 4 times more expensive
Too difficult to transport
Too difficult to fill and seal
There is no way that the retailers will stock it
It will only appeal to a small segment of buyers
That he is wasting his money
But he still tried….
It sold
Way above his highest expectation
And soon everyone climbed onto the bandwagon
70 million cups sold in the Benelux
70 million in the 5th year!!
and still growing!!
These cups are now also packed in Spain, Italy, and sold all over Europe and even exported to Japan
70 million cups!!
Why?
And how did they convince people to buy Fresh Snackfood in their millions?
There are many factors to this success:
Great tasting products, Clever branding & advertising, Excellent distribution
General health awareness of consumers
And of course the packaging……
Take samples out of box
What makes this packaging so interesting?
It is fun, it is cool…
Open, eat, close, eat again
It makes the veggie interesting
It even taste better
Did someone say that we are eating with our eyes??

You can now buy these snacks in small corner shops, garage forecourts, see it on countertops,
Since June it is even being trialed on a regional airline!
With clever marketing young and old are eating the snack food
Media campaigns make it cool for young kids
And for teenagers the health benefits are promoted
And it is great for everybody, growers and consumers
