WHAT'S THE TECHNOLOGY
SUBJECT ABOUT?
PREVIOUS TEST:

How is electricity generated in a nuclear
power station?

How does your car engine work?

Can you send an email and attach a
file?

Why is the triangle shape
used in most of the
structures?

What does it mean that a machine is a
digital machine?
Reflection:Reflection:

Are these topics culture?

If you CAN'T send an email, could you be a cultivated person?
WHAT'S TECHNOLOGY?
“Technology involves the application of knowledge, resources, materials, tools,
and information in designing, producing, and using products, structures (physical
and social), and systems to extend human capability to control and modify
natural and human-made environments.”
IN DIFFERENT WORDS !
all the things people make and do to their natural environment in order to get the
things they want and need.
THIS
BUT ALSO THESE
THIS IS TECHNOLOGY
Humans have evolved with nature. Living in the wild was hard,
so first humans used their intelligence to get the natural things
around them as stones and sticks and transform them for their
help to survive.
It was the beginning of Technology, thanks to Technology
humans could do things that they weren't naturally prepared to
do.
As humans, our
students can use their
intelligence to solve
problems
THE ORIGIN OF
TECHNOLOGY
1st STEP: Describing the problem
2nd STEP: Looking for information:
THE PROJECT METHOD
We asked the student to solve a problem. Some examples,

A little wood house for birds (1º ESO)

A structure made using just paper that supports one student's weight. (1º ESO)

An electric car without a battery inside. (3º ESO)

An electric generator (3º ESO)

Any thing that works automatically (4º ESO)
3er STEP: Thinking and designing
THE PROJECT METHOD
4th STEP: Planning the construction:

Budget

Materials

Tools

Time
5th STEP: Construction:
Working in groups
6th STEP: Evaluation, assessment:
Writing a report
THE PROJECT METHOD

Technology education includes many other subjects and how to apply
them to solve real problems. Students feel that it could be useful to
study. Improves motivation.

It's different from other subjects, specific place (the workshop), different
methodology.

Students learn that working in groups is difficult and they learn how to
negotiate and listen to different ideas

It's focused on practice, deals with doing and making things to
understand them.

Many times students, especially girls, only have this opportunity to get
to know how to use tools.
Why should students study
Technology?
