Prayer

Thank you. Father God I just surrender myself to You right
now, as your vessel. Even though I have prepared this
lesson, I pray that You will speak through me and speak
what You what to be spoken. I just thank You Holy Spirit.

In Jesus name.

12
Chapter One

What is the Purpose of Worship?

I want to open with, “But the hour is coming” which is
found in the Book of John chapter four, verse twenty-three
and twenty-four.

“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true
worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth:
for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God [is] a

                                                           13
Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in
spirit and in truth.”

And, in studying this, “What is the purpose of worship” I
would like to give you four thoughts to think about.

     1. Give adoration and loyalty to God.

     2. To break the bondages of sin in our lives.

     3. Bring ourselves before Him in humbleness.

     4. Total surrender.

14
In the Book of James chapter four verse six, when we read it
we understand that “God resists the proud.” We cannot
come before Him prideful. He wants us to come before Him
humble. If we humble ourselves in the sight of the Lord He
will lift us up. God is seeking out true worshippers.

“What does it mean to worship in Spirit?”

To worship in Spirit means to worship the Father in Christ
with all your heart, soul, and all your might. We must not
take this lightly. Worship can be done in any form such as:

                                                          15
through singing, through praying, studying God’s Word,
giving, and having communion with Him. As we draw near
to God He will draw near to us, as stated in James chapter
four, verse eight.

Worship is a time when we give deep, sincere, awesome
respect, and Love—along with fearing the One who created
us as stated in the Book of Acts, chapter seventeen verses
twenty-four and twenty-five.

16
“God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that
he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples
made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men's
hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all
life, and breath, and all things.”

So, it is not about going to a building. It is about that
intimate time you have alone with the Lord in your room.

                                                           17
It might be in your car. It might be, um, where you find the
time as some people use their bathroom. But worship is
finding that alone time with Him, and giving Him your all.

18
Chapter Two

                                                     Press On

Philippians 2:12 tells us to work out our salvation with fear
and trembling. Worship is working that out, as—as, we get
into the Word He will show us the things are needing
correction in our lives. He will show an area that He wants
to perfect; as we surrender to Him He will able to do those
things in us.

                                                              19
As we worship Him we bring honor and we magnify Him. It
is also our way of bringing edification and strength into our
own lives as it refreshes our souls and our spirit and we
become one with Him. There are times when I am praying
for people and I just feel His Love overflow within me. It is
just an amazing Love!

So, as we press into Him we become like those we worship,
and one as we take on the mind of Christ. We take on, um,
we start being transformed into His likeness.

20
Philippians 2:5 says, “Let this mind be in you.” As well,
Romans 12:2 is a good scripture to study too.

                                                            21
Chapter Three

                                            Be Transformed

”How do we become renewed?” It is by studying and
meditating upon His Word. In my experience before I came
to the Lord, I had many things that were in my life—some
things were spoken to me, and sometimes I just acquired
along the way. A lot of negative things! I got into the Word
of God and started spending time in the Lord. He started

22
revealing different scriptures to me and starting breathing
Life into me. The more I consumed those words, and the
more I meditated upon them and took them deep into my
spirit---the more they became a part of me.

If you have ever grown up with a sense of not being able to
do certain things such as: being challenged in life saying, “I
can’t do that” the Lord would always remind me, “I can do
all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me.” So,
that would be an example.

                                                             23
Worship produces His character as far as: forgiveness,
Love, purity, justice, kindness, and gentleness. (Gal. 5) We
read in Colossians chapter three verse two, “Set your mind
on the things above and not on the things of the earth.”

As we meditate upon Him, He is able to fill us more with His
thoughts, His character, and His mindsets. We no long
longer see things as the world sees them. We start seeing
things in a supernatural way. We start seeing the
amazement of God and His kingdom.

24
Some points to remember is that God resists the proud. To
always humble ourselves before Him. To worship in Spirit
and Truth He will not accept it as pleasing if it is not done
this Way.

Jeremiah chapter ten, verse twenty-three, talks about God
directing our ways. Let me look that up right quick, for
those of you who want to join me on that. “Oh Lord I know
the Way of man is not in Himself it is not in man wants to
direct His own steps.” I am also reminded to trust the Lord
with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding
                                                                25
but all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your
paths.

So, um, we should only worship God. Here are a few
scriptures that you might want to meditate upon more.

     1. Acts 17: 24, 25

     2. Philippians 2:12

     3. James 4:8

     4. Philippians 2:5

26
5. Romans 12:2

6. Colossians 3:2

I hope that helps some of you. I hope to go deeper into
this next time.

                                                          27
We pray this message has a been a blessing to you, today.
