• Is it sexual?
• Is it romantic?
• Is it like a fairy tale?
• Does it make your heart beat 100x/minute?
• Is it easy?
• Does it involve happiness?
6. Triangular Theory of Love
• Intimacy – Which encompasses feelings of
attachment, closeness, connectedness, and
bondedness.
• Passion – Which encompasses drives connected
to both obsession and sexual attraction.
• Commitment – Which encompasses, in the short
term, the decision to remain with another, and in
the long term, the shared achievements and
plans made with that other.
7. Forms of Love
• Non-love – simply casual interactions
• Liking – close bonds of friendship
• Infatuated Love – passion without intimacy or
commitment
• Empty Love – like an arranged marriage
• Romantic Love – two people are bonded
intimately and passionately
• Companionate Love – like a long term marriage,
commitment and intimacy without the passion
8. Forms of Love
• Fatuous Love – a commitment is made on the
basis of passion
• Consummate Love – a complete form of love;
the “perfect couple”

14. Activity
• In groups of 4-5, create list of songs that have
the word “Love” or the true meaning of
“Love” in the lyrics or title
• When it is your turn, one group member will
have to sing or hum a part of the song
• Groups that have that song on their lists, will
have to drop it
• The group with the most songs remaining win
15. Assignment
• Create list of every person in your life that you
love
• For each person or group of persons explain
what kind of love it is.
• How do you let this person know you love
them?
• Share these ideas with the class
