The document discusses the origin and meaning of the Greek word "hupostasis" found in Hebrews 11:1 of the New Testament. When the New Testament was first translated to English, translators used the word "substance" for "hupostasis" since its meaning was unclear. However, archaeologists later discovered that "hupostasis" was used on property title deeds, showing it refers to legal ownership or title. Having faith, as described in Hebrews 11:1, is like having the title deed to promises from God, proving your ownership even if you have not yet received the physical promise.

There are many similarities between the Gilgamesh flood account and the biblical flood account (Genesis 6—8), beginning most importantly with God choosing a righteous man to build an ark because of an impending great flood. In both accounts, samples from all species of animals were to be on the ark, and birds were used after the rains to determine if flood waters had subsided anywhere to reveal dry land.
There are other similarities between the Gilgamesh flood account and the biblical flood account.
A verse by verse commentary on Ezra 6 dealing with king Darius decree to get confirmation of king Cyrus's order to rebuild the temple, and then the completion and dedication of the temple,
The Phoenicians were enigmatic people, who left little in the way of written records. Much of what we know of them from ancient times was recorded by Greek and Roman historians who mentioned their seamanship and shrewd business dealings.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

4. When the New
Testament was
translated from
the Greek into
English nearly 400
years ago, the
translators were
still puzzled by
this word
“hupostasis,” as it
seemed to be
some kind of
business
terminology not
normally used in
classical Greek
literature. All they
knew was that it
meant something
fairly substantial,
so they translated
it as “substance.”
Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the substance of
things hoped for” and the word translated
“substance” in this verse is the Greek word
“hupostasis”.
5. But some years ago archaeologists
uncovered the remains of an old inn
in northern Israel. There they found
a small iron chest containing the
valuable papers of a Roman
noblewoman who had owned lands
and property in Israel. And almost
every paper had this title in big
letters across the top:
“Hupostasis”!
They were all
title deeds
to her
properties!
This Roman woman had perhaps
never seen her properties in
Israel, but she knew they were
hers and she could prove her
ownership because she had the
title deeds.
6. Someone promised to give me a car
once, and they sent the title deed to
me by mail. Though I'd never seen
the car and never driven it, I knew it
was mine because I had the title in
my hand.
7.
8. If you've asked the Lord
for something but
haven't seen the answer
yet, don't worry. If you
have real faith, then
you've got the title to it in
your hands, and your
name is written on it!
