This document discusses how science fiction genres become exhausted over time through standard repetition of tropes and then are reinvigorated through parody and hybrid variants that reestablish and reimagine genre norms. It specifically examines how urban landscapes, aliens, technology, and media are common sci-fi images that have become exhausted and how animated science fiction sitcoms can provide self-aware parody to mock exhaustion and allow for genre rejuvenation.
