PoE Lighting innovations are great for senior care facilities. The highly efficient fixtures are equipped with green functionality that can help save big money and carbon-guilt while offering a host of human-centric design benefits like color tuning, occupancy sensing, and scheduling.
3. REAL FAST
What is PoE again?
Power over Ethernet is a term for systems that pass both
data and power over one ethernet cable.
Why is it a big deal?
PoE enables a new level of connectivity and control, while
using power more efficiently for big savings and reduced
environmental impact.
Does it really make a difference?
Oh yeah. Check out the references we cite in this
document. PoE lighting use significantly less power than
older overhead lighting, and their color-tuning ability
provides enhanced humancentric benefits.
4. Why change the
lighting in
spaces occupied
by seniors?
1. Biology + Comfort Concerns
2. Energy Efficiency + Bottom Lines
3. The Environment Big + Small
5. Adjusting to
change can
be tricky.
Eyes change with age.
As people grow older, the muscle that controls their pupil’s
sensitivity to light gets a little lazy, and loses some strength.
Light - so useful when we are in our “working” years - offers new
challenges in the form of “glare”.
Glare can be dangerous!
PoE lighting utilizes Low Voltage power and LEDs. Fixtures can
be more strategically placed to create low-lighting for safer
pathfinding at night.
Biology + Comfort Concerns
6. Synching
Circadian
Rhythm
Circadian rhythms are important. We have a “body clock”
that runs on a 24 hour schedule, regulating care of important
functions like producing the hormones for sleep and waking.
Light impacts circadian rhythms. Our bodies are naturally
timed to the sun. This can be difficult for seniors who don’t get
out much.
PoE lighting solutions can be color-tuned to mimic the sun.
Cool lights triggers alertness, while warm light has a relaxing
effect. They can also be set to dim per a schedule.
Biology + Comfort Concerns
7. Why reach?
PoE lighting systems are equipped with sensors. Motion
sensors are more than just efficient. They enable lighting to be
reactive to a residents needs.
Forget about forgetting to turn-off the lights. PoE lighting
can be set to a schedule. Or, it can be set to “turn-off”
according to the room monitoring sensors.
PoE lighting can be controlled physically and digitally. Wall
plates are not a thing of the past. Residents can still physically
adjust the lighting if they would like too.
Biology + Comfort Concerns
8. Old-fashioned
lighting is
expensive.
Assisted living facilities consume power for lighting. Just
check out the numbers in this study for the Department of
Energy.
PoE lighting uses LEDs. LEDs use up to 80% less energy than
an incandescent bulb and have a longer lifespan.
PoE switches are “smart”, which makes them a “green”
feature. The PoE switch manages power and draws less AC
overall for all the devices it powers with PoE.
Energy Efficiency + Bottom Lines
9. PoE lighting
is efficient.
PoE lighting can often utilizes light-harvesting functions to
decrease power use. Many PoE fixtures are able to monitor
the environment around them and adjust to use less power
when daylight provides ambient light.
Light up only the space that’s being used. PoE lighting
systems offer motion sensing technology to dim or sleep
according to times and/or occupancy cues.
PoE devices draw only the power they require to run. PoE
switches manage power better so devices aren’t draining your
accounts just by being plugged in.
Energy Efficiency + Bottom Lines
10. PoE lighting is
a gamechanger
for the
environment
Lighting makes a space. Seniors have special lighting needs.
Placement of lighting can reduce dangerous glares and help
with pathfinding during hours when seniors are less alert.
PoE lighting generates less heat. LED lights, as well as the
low voltage power of PoE systems, are safe to instal in more
locations.
PoE lighting reduces carbon guilt. PoE lighting can shrink
your facilities footprint.
The Environment, Big + Small
11. Encompass AV
has your back.
PoE lighting is new. Encompass AV can get you ahead of the
curve. We represent PoE products from two lines, and have
extensive experience with installation and system integration.
PoE lighting should be installed by experts. Again - EAV’s got
you here, but it’s going to important that people can be
temporarily moved while new overhead lights are installed. It is
quick, neat, and wont cause more than a temporary distraction.
PoE lighting requires an equipment rack and dedicated
computer. The size of the equipment rack is relative to how
extensive a system is. EAV offers a monthly maintenance
service to keep this in top shape, and the fixtures we supply
come with a manufacturer’s warranty.
