Francis I has emphasized social justice and helping the poor. His calls for unity could give favor to the papacy as the leader of Christendom. Satan may use increasing social concerns and problems to influence people to support Sunday laws as a way to solve moral and economic issues, appealing to the papacy's authority over religious matters. Adventists should prepare more for Christ's second coming than just the Sunday law, by working with others to get ready through sharing the gospel message.

Adventism and Ecumenism: Joinable or Not Joinable?Cristopher Luaya
Adventism has been unwilling to join with the modern ecumenism since a century ago. However, Christians until today kept on inviting Adventists’ ecumenical involvement. They challenged that Adventist are not simply “Adventists” but are “Adventist Christians.” A red-carpeted welcome and grandeur celebration has been prepared if only Adventists will join with the socio-politically concerned ecumenism.
Central to this presentation is to ethically evaluate the above challenge. It traces why Adventists are hesitant to fully joining with the contemporary ecumenism. This study shows that Adventists maintain principles that interrupts them from fully joining with the modern ecumenical movement. In fact, these are barriers that do not make Adventists simply “Adventist Christians” but “Adventists.” In other words, Adventism should rise up distinct from the rest of Christendom.
Caring as part of the social responsibilities of the churchDotun Akinsulire
The church does not exist in a vacuum; it is an integral part of the social order. To this extent, the church should be perceived as functional and relevant, in view of its place in the social order. In recent times, secular entities have been seen to display a stronger sense of social responsibility than those of the household of faith. While corporate organizations subscribe to the function of social responsibility as a code of business principle, Christian social responsibility is an extension of the church’s mandate Missio Dei. It is under-girded by Christian theology and not a commercial policy towards achieving an economic agenda.
God, the great Communicator created the universe through communication. He wants human beings, as His image-bearers, to communicate with Him, and especially fellow human beings through various invented communication means. Social media have been one of such inventions that human beings have been using to communicate with one another. Inasmuch as conflicts are inevitable among human beings, to resolve these conflicts and have a sustainable peaceful co-existence, God wants human beings to resemble Jesus Christ (who is the Mediator between God and man) to dialogue mediatively among conflicting partings using social media as a means. To this end, this paper discussed theological basis for conflict resolution and peacebuilding in general and theological basis for sustainable mediative dialogue in particular, gave some biblical injunctions on how to prevent conflicts and have a peaceful co-existence, and concluded with the theological basis for social media.
The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

40. What will Satan do as social
concerns are increasing in the
world?
Will it give favor to the headship
of the papacy in Christendom?
41. “Satan puts his
interpretation upon
events, and they think,
as he would have them,
that the calamities which
fill the land are a result
of Sundaybreaking.
Thinking to appease the
wrath of God these
influential men make
laws enforcing Sunday
observance.”—LDE, 129.
43. “This very class put
forth the claim that the
fast-spreading
corruption is largely
attributable to the
desecration of the so-
called ‘Christian
Sabbath’ [Sunday] and
that the enforcement
of Sunday observance
would greatly improve
the morals of society.”
LDE, 129-130.
44. “It will be declared that men
are offending God by the
violation of the Sunday-
sabbath, that this sin has
brought calamities which will
not cease until Sunday
observance shall be strictly
enforced, and that those who
present the claims of the
fourth commandment—thus
destroying reverence for
Sunday—are troublers of the
people, preventing their
restoration to divine favor
and temporal prosperity.”—GC
(1888), 590.
45. “Laws enforcing the
observance of Sunday
as the Sabbath will
bring about a national
apostasy from the
principles of
republicanism upon
which the government
has been founded. The
religion of the papacy
will be accepted by the
rulers, and the law of
God will be made
void.”—7MR 192 (1902).
46. “A day of great intellectual
darkness has been shown to
be favorable to the success
of popery. It will yet be
demonstrated that a day of
great intellectual light is
equally favorable for its
success.”—4SP 390 (1884).

48. The real solution is
Jesus. When He
comes, all social
problems will be
gone.
He promised that “I
will come back and
take to be with me
that you also may
be where I am”
(John 14:3).
52. “We are the people who, like John, are to prepare
the way of the Lord; and if we are prepared for
the second coming of Christ, we must work with
all diligence to prepare others for Christ's
second advent, as did the forerunner of Christ
for his first advent, calling men to
repentance.”—1888 118.1.
53. Be prepared for Sunday law. However, be
more prepared for the Second Coming.
54. “The grace of the Lord Jesus be with
God’s people. Amen.”—Rev 22:21, NIV.
Let us start our study today with the election of Francis I into the papal office as his rule is closely related to events in the last days. Frances I’s election was unique. Different from is predecessors, he puts heavy emphasis on social justice. He as reported, “will not yield on doctrine, but his emphasis will be on the poor.”
Source: Andrew Brown, “Pope Frances Will Not Yield on Doctrine, But His Emphasis Will be on the Poor,” http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/mar/14/pope-francis-doctrine-emphasis-poverty (accessed May 22, 2013).
He will highlight “on service and putting faith into [social] action.”
Ontario Catholic School of Trustee’s Association, “OCSTA Welcomes Pope Frances I as the 266th Bishop of Rome and the New Leader of the Roman Catholic Church,” para. 3, http://www.newswire.ca/en/story/1130325/ocsta-welcomes-pope-francis-i-as-the-266th-bishop-of-rome-and-the-new-leader-of-the-roman-catholic-church (accessed May 22, 2013).
“Social action is about people coming together to help improve their lives and solve the problems that are important in their communities. It involves people giving their time and other resources for the common good, in a range of forms – from volunteering and community-owned services to community organising or simple neighbourly acts.”—https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/591797/A_description_of_social_action.pdf (accessed April 14, 2020).
According to the above statement: There is social action because there are social problems.
Among the topmost is health.
COVID 19 is now the primary focus not only in the Philippines but around the world.
As of May 29, 2020
Covid-19, not only a national issue, is a global issue. Thus, pandemic.
On his April 11, 2020 message at the Vatican, Francis I was very vocal of his social agenda.
"May Christ our peace enlighten all who have responsibility in conflicts, that they may have the courage to support the appeal for an immediate global ceasefire in all corners of the world," the pope said in a livestreamed Easter message.
According to the report, “He condemned arms manufacturing and said the pandemic should spur leaders to finally end long-running wars such as that in Syria. He also appealed for help for migrants and others suffering from existing humanitarian conflicts.”-- https://www.france24.com/en/20200412-do-not-yield-to-fear-pope-francis-delivers-easter-eve-homily-amid-covid-19-pandemic (accessed April 14, 2020).
"This is not a time for indifference, because the whole world is suffering and needs to be united in facing the pandemic," he said in the message, almost entirely dedicated to the pandemic's effects on personal and international relations.
"Indifference, self-centredness, division and forgetfulness are not words we want to hear at this time. We want to ban these words forever!" he said.
European Union nations are divided over how to help the continent's economy recover – with Italy and other eurozone members seeking the issuance of euro bonds backed by all, but Germany, the Netherlands and other countries opposed to this.
That echoed a position by Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, whose country has suffered one of the highest death tolls from Covid-19.
Since his papal election, Francis I has been an international peace broker.
In fact, unity is what we need. In times of crisis, as this COVID 19 crisis, unity is of utmost importance. Only in unity that this virus could be defeated.
How do we show our participation for unity? First, we temporarily close of churches for church services. Second, we follow quarantine protocols. Third, we secure travel passes. Fourth, we observe curfew hours.
The most important unity that we can show to our God at this time of crisis is “prayer.”
This virus cannot separate us from God. It does not prevent us from worshipping the Lord. We use the technology today to communicate God’s Word. We worship online. We can still worship at home with our family and friends. I said it again that this COVID 19 cannot stop us from praising the Lord.
However, do you think this pope’s incessant call of unity by the pope will have a positive result? We can only understand this if we also understand how Satan used human agency in the past to fulfill his agenda.
Let us not forget that the papacy was the agenda used by the Satan and the Roman Empire to “oppress his [God’s] saints” for “a time, times, and half a time” (Dan 7:25).
We all know that in 1798 this power was wounded. However, after “fatal wound had been healed . . . The whole world was astonished and followed the beast” (Rev 13:3).
It simply means that in the last days, before Christ comes, the whole world (to except God’s remnant church), the papacy will be followed.
The Catholicism is still “unchanged.”
The papacy in the 21st century is the same papacy who ruled 1260 years (538-1798). The same papacy who persecuted the Christians for not conforming to Catholic doctrines and traditions.
We don’t have the exact detail how will this happen. We are only given a glimpse of what will happen. We can fully understand this as history unfolds everyday—as the world is nearing to its end. We might not be able to see as it is today but we see that it is true by faith.
Under one head—the papal head—people will oppose God. Then, what is the papacy’s mark of ecclesiastical power and authority in religious matters?
The Letter from C. F. Thomas, Chancellor of Cardinal Gibbons on October 28, 1895:
Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change [from Sabbath observance to Sunday observance] was her act…And the act is a MARK of her ecclesiastical power and authority in religious matters.
Could it be possible that, in the last days, the people who will oppose God will under the papal headship on the issue of his ecclesiastical power and authority in religious matters—i.e., Sunday?
Before answering that one, we will answer this question first: How will social action influence to the legislation of Sunday law?
Bp Pabillo says that in the ecumenical dialogue,
You first work together on things that you can agree and little by little work on the things that you won’t agree. And hopefully when trust is built because you agree on these things and you agree, and you understand each other better. When you talked on things that you do not agree, there can a more understanding among you.
Fr. Rances says,
“Whatever what church religion you belong, you are facing the same difficulties. You are living the same country, you are living the same world. As you deal with different issues, you must have a common ground together—and that is faith in God. . . . what comes first, but for me, should be what is closest to the heart of the people—the social need.”
Archbishop Socrates Villegas states,
We may differ in beliefs. We may even differ in liturgical practices. But we have no excuse for differing in our service to the least, the last, and the lost. . . . Putting aside our liturgical, theological and doctrinal differences, we can focus together on a life of compassion and on the ministry of service.
Socrates Villegas, “Spiritual Ecumenism in Action,” In the Spirit of Ecumenism, June 2008, 27.
There are several points that we should consider here. First, calamities are results of Sundaybreaking. And thus, second, influential men will enforce its observance.
Isn’t it her mark of ecclesiastical power and authority in religious matters?
Is Sunday Law still coming? Yes, it is. However, we shall not look at it as the end of everything. Sunday law will just be a frustrating attempt to solve social problems in these last days. It is not the solution.
The real solution is Jesus. When He comes, all social problems will be gone. And he promised that “I will come back and take to be with me that you also may be where I am” (John 14:3).
What are we more prepared for?
Sunday Law
or Second Coming?
Before I will end this presentation, allow me to leave this very important statement from God’s messenger—Ellen G. White.
“We are the people who, like John, are to prepare the way of the Lord; and if we are prepared for the second coming of Christ, we must work with all diligence to prepare others for Christ's second advent, as did the forerunner of Christ for his first advent, calling men to repentance.”
Rather than preparing for that Sunday law, we must be MORE prepared (and we must also be MORE preparing others) for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in the clouds of heaven.
Lastly, “The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.”—Rev 22:21, NIV.
