This presentation provides an overview of Western artists from the 15th to 21st centuries. It outlines that the slides will cover Western Europe and North America, with other regions covered elsewhere. The outline lists the centuries and some representative artists for each, including Brunelleschi, Botticelli, Van Eyck, and Michelangelo for the 15th century and Picasso, Dali, and Rockwell for the 20th century. In the 19th century, art moved beyond religious and aristocratic themes due to events like the French Revolution and the rise of photography.
Nudes in art has a strong tradition in European art. Different cultures have different attitudes toward female nudity. Some saw the female body was associated with the divinity of procreation. To the ancient Greek the standing male nude (Kouros) were associated the male body with athletic proves and moral excellence. The ancient Greek also preferred to see their standing female (Kore) clothed. Later the Cndian Aphrodite was created using idealized proportions based on mathematical ratios. A self-protective pose added to her modesty. This ideal version of the Greek female nude was later adopted by Hellenistic Greco=Roman art but mostly discarded during Pax Romana, from about 50 CE. In Renaissance, Botticelli painted his life size Birth of Venus, leading a revival of the tradition. Ingres demystified female nudes to ordinary women. I came from a culture that nudes were rarely seen. It was shocking and embarrassing at first. Now I don’t notice them any more.

Today, his collection on European paintings is broadly based and methodological. The collection covers the whole span of European painting developments from the early Renaissance to modern days. All the mainstream movements are represented by works from the masters. However, one noticeable absence are paintings from America. In 1970s the collection started to include Asian Arts. Today, there are some 4,000 works in the collection. On European paintings the collection would complement to that of the more well-known Paul Getty Museum. Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

14. Some 19th Century Artists
The 19th Century marked a major change in painting. The French Revolution (1789-1815) inspired
non-religious, non-aristocratic, non-conventional painting. The invention of photography meant that
painting had to do more than realistic portraits and scenes. Some representatives artists and their
painting are below. There are many more famous artists like the Impressionists mostly from France.

17. 20th Century Artists
In the 20th Century, art was influenced by the World Wars and changes in Europe. Pablo Picasso was the
most famous artist. Salvador Dali was the strangest. Marc Chagall was the most colorful. Norman Rockwell
painted many illustrations for many magazines and his painting depicted every day life in America. After
World War 2, the center of the art world moved from Paris to New York. Paintings became more abstract or
based on popular culture (comic strips)
