In any industry, careless and unsafe
practices lead to accidents. Accidents could
mean loss of limbs,loss of life,loss of
income,as well as years of physical
discomfort. A welding plant is no more
dangerous to work in than many industrial
concerns. However, accide nts donot occur,
although statistics show that they donot
happen generally, they are caused more
often by carelessness and ignorance on the
part of the employees than on the part of the
management.

1. Donot throw welding stubs on the floor. Keep
a small container handy at all times for this
purpose.
2. Put up screens when welding. Provide
adequate protection to others in the work
area.
3. Always wear your safety glasses. These
tend to deflect the harmful rays away from
the eyes and could prevent what is known
as flash.
4. Always keep your work area clean. Clean it
up if need be.Residual scraps metal
resulting from trimming should be
immediately placed in a scrap container.

5. Never work underneath an object suspended
by a hoist or crane. If a loaded overhead
crane is passing over, get out of the way in
the meantime.
6. Do n0t mix oil with oxygen. It xcan cause
combusrtion. If someone puts oil on a joint or
coupling, of an oxygen hose or gauge, it
could cause fire or explotion and result in
serious injury.
7. Before burning or cutting, check the area for
flammable materials. Make sure at well that
the sparks are not aimed at a fellow

8. Make sure that you know where the piece
you are removing, by torch cutting is going to
fall.Many a burner has ended up with a
broken foot when the plate he is cutting fell
on him. Tis is stupidity, but it happens.
9. Never be caught off guard. Wear safety
boots at all times at work, the toes you save
may be your own.
10. Donot indulge in any type of horseplay,
even if youre lucky enough to avoid an
accident you are still likely to be fired.

11. When operating a torch, donot point it to
anybody before igniting it. Do not make
any sudden moves and always be on the
alert fer nearby workers.
12. Wear protective aloves; your hands are
worth protecting. A welder should always
wear gloves when handling pieces of steel
or welding equipment.

13. Wear bodily protection and avoid light
colored attire . Welding rays are like the
sun, you are badly burned when it too
late.
14. Do not point a compressed air hose to
anybody and do not use it to clean off your
clothes. Small particles that sometimes
come off through the line be become
missle under pressure.

15. Steer clear of electric wires. If you have
to work close to it them, make sure the
power is turned off . Treat every bare wire
as live one. Electricity can kill.
16. If you see an oil spill on the floor,
regardless of how small, or who caused it,
do not wait for someone else to do
something about in. Clean it up
immediately.

17.Never ignore a warning tag. If you find
one preventing you from performing your
work . See your instructor/supervisor, and
find out why.
18. If you see protruding nail, flatten it down
with a hammer it may be your own feet
that you’ll save.

19. Never pour any type of flammable liquid
into any drain or sewer; be it oil, thinner,
lacquer,gasoline or whatever. You know
what will happen!
20. Never work with equipment that leaks
and never hang a torch inside a empty
container. You could be creating a bomb.

complete SAFETY PROGRAM. The most
important rule is not mentioned, however,
and that is USE YOUR COMMON
SENSE. This is the wisest rule of all and
the following it religiously will assure you
