The Philippines consists of over 7,000 islands located between the South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean. It has over 200 volcanoes, some of which are still active today. The Philippines is also home to ancient rice terraces on the Cordillera mountains that have been cultivated for over 2,000 years and are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Fossils of Homo sapiens dating back 50,000 years were also discovered in the Tabon Cave Complex, indicating early human settlement in the region.
