2. House Keeping
Fire and welfare arrangements – information for visitors
The Chester Beatty Laboratories has a standby alarm where the alarm
sounds intermittently which means prepare to evacuate.
There is then a full evacuation alarm where the alarm sounds
continuously and your guide will direct you to the nearest escape route
and the assembly point.
Fire Exits
The nearest fire exits are the ground floor exits at the back of the building.
The lifts cannot be used during the full alarm; therefore any visitors who
have difficulties using stairs should identify themselves to their group
guide so that assistance can be provided where needed.
Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the building including the balcony
and patio areas

Hello and welcome to the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Centre. A huge thank you for joining us today on what promises to be a very special occasion for all our Challengers, guests, staff and scientists.
Before we get underway I wanted to quickly run through a couple of health and safety notices;
Today there will be a short presentation from X, you will be spilt into two tour groups, based on the colour of your name badge. You will then visit one of our research labs and hear more about the work that you are helping to fund. You will see the 5 th Challengers Wall unveiled and have a chance to see your special nominations as well as take pictures too. You will then move up to our expo where more of our scientist will be on hand to talk through their work in more detail. Finally, there be will refreshments served on our sixth floor, you can chat with the Challenge Team, Breakthrough Staff and scientists.
Without further delay, I will now hand over to X who will be sharing what we’ve achieved with your support since the Research Centre opened in 1999 and more recently since the 4 th Challengers Wall was unveiled in the summer of 2010 - X
I don’t know about you, but as a non scientist (delete if not appropriate), I am always in awe of when I hear about our research work, and how far we have come since the Centre opened. But, our scientists and this Research Centre wouldn’t be here without our fundraisers.
We have over 1471 £1,000 Challengers who are fundraising in their community to help raise funds for our research. From a coffee morning with 5 friends to a fundraising ball with 300, you have all played an integral part in making these breakthroughs happen. Altogether Challengers have raised nearly 20 million to help make breast cancer go away and stay away – incredible! And today we are here to unveil the 5 th Challengers’ Wall – there are 690 names that will be unveiled and each name stands as a memory and testament of the bravery and strength of our challengers, their friends and families.
From everyone at Breakthrough Breast Cancer we wanted to say a huge thank you – for every pin you’ve sold, coffee morning you’ve held, mile you’ve walked – we couldn’t do what we do without you! Thank you for taking on the Challenge.
All that is left for me to say is, we hope you enjoy the rest of your day, thank you so much again for joining us and if you could now split off into your groups, we will be heading upstairs to our labs and the 5 th Wall.
