The SETT framework is a model for reflective practice that helps teachers understand language use and decision making in the classroom. It focuses teachers' attention on interactional choices. The SETT process has teachers analyze classroom recordings using a grid to identify pedagogical modes based on interactional features and goals. Teachers then self-evaluate their language use and ability to maximize interactive opportunities for learning based on socioconstructivist principles. The SETT workshop introduces this process and has teachers practice analyzing excerpts to describe teacher talk and identify how language and goals vary by mode.
