Rebecca Wade thanks those who have helped her achieve this honor of representing the Gympie Region. She acknowledges the work of her predecessor and understands the responsibility of the role. Wade intends to transform Mary Street into a flood-free complex with shops and businesses, and hold more family-friendly events at the show grounds to attract more visitors to Gympie. She pledges to listen to community ideas, ensure all voices are heard, keep her promises, and provide monthly progress updates.

2. THANK YOUS!
• Firstly I would like to thank everyone who has helped to be here and
achieve this great honour.
• I would like to thank my predecessor and also acknowledge the work
and achievements that they have done in honour of the Gympie
Region.
• I understand that I have great shoes to fill and that it will not be an
easy job.
• I would also like to thank each and everyone who has come here
today to listen to my maiden speech.

o I live in the beautiful rural community of Gympie
o I have lived in Gympie my whole life
o I come from a family who has been in Gympie their whole
life
o I am the youngest of 3 daughters to my Mother Leanne
and Father Clyde
o I care for the community in which I live in and due to this I
am involved in many community activities including
- Anzac Day Parades
- Community Markets events
- Supporting local Karate events
- Australia Day Clean ups
- Etc

4. What I intend to Achieve/ Inforce
In order to make Gympie a town that more people will want to come
and visit there are a number of areas/ renovations that will need to
occur to make Gympie a destination on everyone's map. These points
include:
Transforming Mary Street into a flood free (high off the ground)
complex, with a range of well known shops, including a K-mart and also
small business that were already existing in Mary Street.

5. What I intend to Achieve/ Inforce
• Hold more events at the show grounds to give children a range of
activities to complete in, such as, Ice skating rings, roller domes,
caravan, boating and fishing shows etc. (Things the whole family can
enjoy doing).

within the community.
