appropriate kitchen
tools, equipment,
and paraphernalia
1.2 classify the types of appropriate cleaning tools and
equipment based on their uses
● Cookery is the art or practice of preparing and
cooking food. This exploratory course will
develop your Knowledge, Skills, Attitude and
Values (KSAVs) in preparing and cooking
food. At the end of the quarter, you will be
able to utilize and maintain appropriate
kitchen tools, equipment and paraphernalia,
carry out measurements and calculations in a
required task, compute cost of production,
and practice Occupational Health and Safety
Procedures.
● Specifically, for this week, you will be able to
identify types of tools, equipment, and
paraphernalia, and classify the types of
appropriate cleaning tools and equipment
based on their uses.
● Before you start exploring the following
kitchen tools, equipment and paraphernalia do
this activity.
● For this lesson, you will be able to
identify types of tools, equipment, and
paraphernalia, and classify the types
of appropriate cleaning tools and
equipment based on their uses.
● The tools, utensils and equipment are
made of different materials, each
having certain advantages and
disadvantages. The following lists are
materials of kitchen utensils and
equipment commonly found in the
kitchen.
● Note: Please refer to pages 2 - 8 of
Grade7/8 TLE Cookery PIVOT IV-A
Learner’s Materials for the
classification of different tools and
equipment used in cookery.
● KITCHEN TOOLS, UTENSILS, AND
EQUIPMENT
● I know you are already familiar with some
of these kitchen tools, utensils, and
equipment since some of them is
commonly used in the household. But do
you understand the difference among
these? Let’s see.
● The term kitchen tools are hand-held
instruments or items that usually include a
broad range of products such as kitchen
utensils. Kitchen utensils, on the other
hand, are hand-held implements or
instruments used for specific purpose in
the kitchen. The term kitchen equipment
refers to appliances that work with the use
of electricity.
Class will be
divided into five
and an envelop
having puzzle will
be given. Puzzle
will be solved and
will be posted in
front.
Are you familiar with
those?
Students will
understand the
differences
among the
kitchen tools,
kitchen utensils,
and kitchen
equipment.

Materials of Kitchen
Utensils and
Equipment Commonly
Found in the Kitchen
Others name various types of
kitchen utensils, according to the
materials they are made of, like
“-ware” suffix, rather than their
functions: earthenware, utensils
made of clay; silverware, utensils
(both kitchen and dining) made
of silver, glassware, utensils
(both kitchen and dining). It only
means that kitchen utensils are
made of different materials.
In this lesson, you will identify
and utilize the different
materials of kitchen utensils
and equipment commonly
found in the kitchen and you
can also point out the
importance of studying this
lesson.
1. What are the pictures all
about?
2. What can you observe
with kitchen tools and
equipment? Are they
made of the same
materials?
3. Based on the picture,
where are the kitchen
utensils and equipment
are made of? List down at
least 3.
Any cook should be familiar with the
correct utensils, devices and equipment
in the kitchen. The job of cooking
requires specific tools, utensils, and
equipment for proper and efficient
preparation of food. Each piece has
been designed to accomplish a specific
job in the kitchen. The tools, utensils
and equipment are made of different
materials, each having certain
advantages and disadvantages.

Appropriate Cleaning Tools and
Equipment Based on their Uses
1. Dishwasher is a machine for cleaning dishware and cutlery automatically. Unlike
manual dishwashing, which relies largely on physical scrubbing to remove soiling,
the mechanical dishwasher cleans by spraying hot water, typically between 45 and
75 °C (110 and 170 °F), at the dishes, with lower temperatures used for delicate
items.
2. Vacuum Cleaner is used to eliminate loose soil and dust from carpet surfaces
and even hard surfaces.
3. Floor Polisher is used in scrubbing, stripping, and polishing hard floor surfaces
and also vinyl, wood parquet, etc.
4. Hydro Vacuum Cleaner is called an “all-purpose vacuum” as it is used for both
dry and wet surfaces and also for absorbing water in flooded or wet surface.
5. Carpet Sweeper is used to pick-up dirt and particles from carpet.
A. Cleaning Equipment is any of a large tool or electric machine used for
cleaning.
Appropriate Cleaning Tools and
Equipment Based on their Uses
1. Floor Squeegee is needed to remove excessive water from the surfaces and corners.
It also speeds up the drying process.
2. Soft broom is for fine and flat surfaces like vinyl and wood. Stick broom is ideal for
rough surfaces like grounds.
3. Dust Mop is used to mop dust on the floor during follow up cleaning.
4. Floor Mop is used for mopping, floor stripping and waxing.
5. Caution Sign is used to alert people that the floor is wet and slippery, and they should
not step on it. It is a tool for the prevention of slips and injuries.
6. Scouring Pads should not be used for painted surfaces, mirrors and glass panels, nor
with scouring powder. Always make sure the pads are wet before using them.
7. Sponges are used for cleaning fine or smooth surfaces.
8. Mop Wringer is used to wring and flush out excess water in the mop during damp
mopping.

How To Effectively
Maintain Farm Tools to
Increase Efficiency and
Avoid Breakages
● You have to maintain farm tools and
equipment because; “Breakages are
payable”.
● Farm tools and equipment help to
make farm work easier and effective.
There are very many of them
designed to do one or a number of
functions. The design and shape of
the tools and equipment should be
given proper attention if they are to
do their function for which they were
made. So you have to effectively
maintain farm tools and equipment.
●
Introduction
Why maintain farm tools
and equipment?
● They last longer when
you maintain them.
● Tools and equipment
that are maintained work
more efficiently.
● When you keep tools
and equipment in good
shape, you reduce the
risk of injury to the
operator.
● Regular maintenance
reduces the cost of
maintenance.
How to Effectively Maintain Farm Tools and
Equipment
1. Sharpen tool before and after use.
When you sharpen tools it reduces the
amount of force you need to apply to
perform the task. Blunt tools may break
when being used.
2. Oil or grease metal parts.
This will prevent rusts of metal parts of
tools and equipment. Oiling the movable
parts makes the tools easy to work with. It
also increases the efficiency of the tool or
equipment.
Introduction
3. Wooden handles should be strong.
Make sure tools with wooden handles are
strong and durable. If there is any defect,
replace them.
4. Hang your garden tools.
Keep your tools hanged. Leaving them on
the floor can cause rusts as they may come
in contact with moisture. Leaving tools on
the floor may cause injury to persons or
persons stepping on them may break or
deform them, causing them to be
unsuitable for work.
5. Store tools in their original cases.
Some tools and equipment come in their
special cases to keep them protected for
damage. Make sure to clean and keep them
in their original cases.
6. Use silica gel packs.
Silica gel helps to keep tools dry in their
cases. Use silica gel to prevent rust of tools
and equipment with metal parts.
7. Dry Tools After Use
After using tools or equipment, clean and
make sure they are dried before packing or
hanging them. This will prevent them from
rusting.
Summary
As much as tools and equipment at
important to accomplishing tasks on the
farm, it is important to always keep them
ready for work.
Let us know how you maintain your tools.
