Social Media Confusion? How to Choose the Right NetworkKyle Buyers
A webinar broadcast in the summer of 2012 (before I went back to school for Marketing), this presentation was the most highly-registered in our company during my time there and received very positive feedback from its attendees.
Today there are things I would edit and improve, including my overall strategic approach to social media - but that is the fun of working in an emerging field. Also, now that I have a solid educational background on the subject, I would use my new knowledge to bolster this presentation.

Tactics to Kickstart Your Journey Toward DevOpsExcella
You’re probably a believer in the benefits of continuous delivery and DevOps (why else would you be at this meetup?). The rest of your organization... maybe not so much. Maybe you’re getting pushback on changes you believe will make your organization better. Maybe you’re not sure where or how to start to give yourself the best chance of making a change that will work. I’ll give you some tactics to start your journey toward DevOps (or toward any meaningful change, for that matter). I’ll also show how you might apply those tactics to address a specific challenge: adding test automation to a large legacy codebase. The goal is that you walk away with more tools in your “change toolkit” and a little more enthusiasm for shaking things up for the better where you work.

Agile 2.0 - Rebooting a Raccoon in an Imperfect WorldCraig Smith
Presentation by Craig Smith and Greg Smith at Agile 2011 in Salt Lake City.
On this 10th anniversary of agile, our community is struggling to address the issue of how to take experienced agile practitioners to the next level, while still providing training and tools to support those who are beginning their journey. With the “agile” word getting so overloaded, the challenge is to continually innovate without assigning labels. In this talk we will discuss how to use the best of traditional, lean and agile methods to suit any team and showcase numerous patterns that demonstrate the best process to use is often a mixture of traditional practices and new innovations.

Testing Like a Pro - Chef Infrastructure TestingTim Smith
Automated infrastructure allows us to move fast, but moving fast is scary without proper testing. Where to start though? The state of the art in Chef cookbook testing has changed rapidly in the last few years with the introduction of new and improved tools and much of what you’ll find in web searches is often outdated.
In this presentation I’ll give an overview of the available tools for testing and techniques to avoid busy work in your testing. We’ll cover cookbook linting, unit testing, and integration testing using Cookstyle, ChefSpec, and Test Kitchen / InSpec. We’ll also cover wiring up your testing in Travis CI to perform full integration tests on every PR.
Will Git Be Around Forever? A List of Possible Successors🎤 Hanno Embregts 🎸
What source control software did you use in 2008? Possibly Git, if you were an early adopter or a Linux kernel committer. But chances are you were using Subversion, as this was the product of choice for the majority of the software developers. Ten years later, Git is the most popular product. Which makes me wonder: what will we use another ten years from now?
In this talk we will think about what features we want from our source control software in 2028. More speed? Better collaboration support? No merge conflicts ever?
I’ll also discuss a few products that have been published after Git emerged, including Fossil, Veracity and Pijul. I’ll talk about the extent to which they contain the features we so dearly desire and I’ll demonstrate a few typical use cases. To conclude, I’ll try to predict which one will be ‘the top dog’ in 2028 (all information is provided “as is”, no guarantees etc. etc.).
So attend this session if you’re excited about the future of version control and if you want to have a shot at beating even (!) the early adopters. Now if it turns out I was right, remember that you heard it here first.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Activity – get participants to line up along front of room where they place them selves on spectrum
It’s well known that the Rudd campaign was the first federal election campaign to use social media effectively. The year was 2007 and the slogan Kevin 07 rang thick. Not just through old media but online as well. Obviously this wasn’t the first time the internet had been used to help reach potential voters. Websites, blogs and display advertising have all been used in the last few campaigns. I remember seeing banner ads for Howard’s campaign as far back as 1996 when he took on the then encumbent Labor party. The difference in 2007 was that the dialogue changed. It went from being one way communication to a conversation that listened to and engaged with the voting public. It also quite likely won them the election. There was a huge swing towards Labor much of it coming from young, first time voters. Who obviously felt engaged by a party and potential prime minister who was willing to listen.
