Touchmark welcomes new Dietary Services manager
Longtime team member, Travis Hinners will now
oversee Dining Services at Touchmark. Travis joined
the community as a server 12 years ago while he
was attending Augustana College in Sioux Falls. He
then took on the role of Dining Services supervisor
for seven years before being promoted to manager
this past February. (Randy Austin, who served as
Food Services manager for 17 years, is now the Life
Enrichment/Wellness director.)
Travis is married to Heather, and they have two young
boys, Gavin and Carter. Travis and his wife enjoy
spending time with family, going to church, gardening, and finding the latest rebate offers at Menards
(a local home improvement center).
April 2014
This April, Creative Spirits will visit Touchmark
and present the step-by-step process for creating a

All are invited, but RSVPs are required. (Call 605-335-

The evening will also include wine, beverages, and
appetizers.
The local company, whose Facebook page is packed
with rave reviews (https://www.facebook.com/
CreativeSpiritsSF), helps people discover their inner
artist no matter their art background. There’s no need
to bring supplies … just come and have fun!

Nearly 200 residents and guests sampled and
indulged in many luscious treats at the annual
Dessert Extravaganza.
Even with the snow blowing, people gathered for
conversation and ice cream in the bistro. Several
recalled fond memories of making homemade
ice cream on cold days, because the snow would
freeze the ice cream faster.
Rhonda McConnell, RN, opens the Wellness
Center every Tuesday between 8 and 10 am for
those living independently. Rhonda, who has been
with Touchmark for nine years, can check vital
signs, weight, and answer questions about health
concerns. No appointment is needed.

THOUGHT{FULL} Life Balance—the value of giving back
“ ... The scientific community is also looking more at the outcomes and
benefits for older adults who volunteer. The psychosocial and mental
health benefits have been studied for several years in regard to reduced

is the physical health benefits. In 2013, Carnegie Mellon University
researchers looked specifically at the relationship between volunteerism
and lower blood pressure. They discovered that as little as 200 hours of
volunteering annually showed a dramatic lowering of blood pressure. ...”
