Looking Back…July
July started off on a festive note, with a Patriotic Party on Friday
the 3rd! Our friends the Olandi’s joined us for music and fun to
help us have an early Independence Day celebration. Staff
dressed down in red, white, and blue to mark the occasion.
Summer is always a time for parties, and we had many
throughout the month!
July is National Ice Creammonth and we certainly took
advantage of that! Life Choice hospice care visited
for an Ice CreamSocial, our Sensory activity
focused on ice creamcones, and we made good
old-fashioned banana splits! When we weren’t busy
making (and eating!) delicious frozen treats, we
completed crafts, like 60’s themed “Flower Power”
wreaths. We even played some favoritesummer
games like bocce ball and corn hole!
The musical Marilynda came for our monthly Birthday Party,
recognizing residents born in July. This
month we also attended the annual
church picnic, hosted by St. Paul
Lutheran Church. Residents enjoyed
getting out and about for the field
trip. Turn the page for more about
the picnic, as well as some photos!
The month finished on a fun note with a Retro Party featuring
special guest John Kowalski on July 31st. We danced the day
away to the sounds of the sixties. With all the festivities, it’s no
wonder July flew right by! As the summer stretches on, we
prepare to swing into the seventies.

St. Paul’s Patriotic Picnic Party!
Each year, Rae Ann Suburban joins other local nursing homes and attends a summer picnic
celebration! This year, we had 21 residents go to the event, which was held at St. Paul
Lutheran Church here in Westlake.
We were fortunate to have a beautiful day, although the sun was so hot, we were glad the
picnic took place indoors! Summer favorites like hot dogs, coleslaw, and lemonade were
served, and for dessert we enjoyed cupcakes, popsicles, and ice cream sandwiches. In
addition to good food, there was music and entertainment too. Between silly clowns, a
limbo stick, and a hula hoop competition, there was something for everyone!
The event ended on a high note with a sing-a-long performance of “God Bless America.”
As we raised our voices and honored our country together, red, white, and blue balloons
cascaded down from the ceiling. As a farewell, guests received treat bags filled with
Patriotic party favors including plastic cups, tissues, and red, white, and blue pinwheels!
Everyone agreed that they had a wonderful time.
Thank you to St. Paul Lutheran Church as well as the activities staff for making this event a
success!

On Friday, July 3rd, the
Fairy went to her
Hideaway Home. She
must have wanted some
peace and quiet to
enjoy the long holiday
weekend!
Friday the 10th was
already our fifth week of
fairy finding! The Fairy
found her way to the
Arbor Retreat. It’s nice to
spend some time
outside now that the
weather has finally
gotten warmer!
On July 17th, the Fairy
camped out on
stargazing bridge.
Congratulations Winners!
