(Mithuna-Karka Rashi)
The seventh star in the horoscopic
chart is the Punarvasu Nakshatra. It is a
congregation of five stars. It is in the degree
from 80 to 93.20. The deity regulating
it is Aaditi, the wife of Kashyapa Rishi.
Aaditi is the mother of all deities (gods)
and is called the mother of growth and
development. The word ‘punarvasu’ means
(punar + vasatis) creation of new habitations
or shelters. In the human body, punarvasu
indicates fingers. The first three phases
(padas) of this Nakshatra are covered in
the Mithuna Rashi and the fourth comes in
the Karka (Karkataka) Rashi.
The speciality of the Punarvasu Nakshatra is that it

The Solanki Family of the Badami
Chalukyas, the Katwe family of
Kalyani Chalukya and Rastraakuta
empires and the Haihaya Habib
family of the Kalachuri Cahlukya
kingdom were all the Somavansh
Kshatriyas. The word ‘Katwe’ is
probably derived from ‘Manyakhetwe
(Malkhed or Manyakhet is the name of
the location from where Rastrakutas
rose to power). These families were
the blood relations. The Pallavas of
Kanchi were also the Somavansha
Kshatriyas.
The Royal family of Kalyan’s
Kalachuri dynasty ruled its kingdom
in Kalyan owing allegiance to
the Chalukyas of Kalyani. Their
forefathers had migrated to the
Kalyan region. They were the
descendants of the Yadavas and the
Sahasrarjit Katyaveera dynasty.
The Kalyani Kalachuri kings have
stated in their inscriptions that they
belonged to the Haihaya lineage. The
branches of these royal families are
said to be the migrants from Gujrat’s
Malava kingdom. Our elders say that
our ancestors had come from Gujrat’s
Mandgod. This supports the view
that the descendents of Katyaveera
has come from the Malava region
of Gujrat. The descendent of this
royal family Uchita was a king who
owed allegiance to the Chalukyas
of Kalyani.. King Uchita ruled from
his capital Mangalavede (This is on
the highway between Sholapur and
Kolhapur).
Jogaman succeded Uchita. He gave
away his daughter Savaladevi
to the Kalyani Chalukya
king Vikramaditya in
marriage. He ruled his
kingdom delivering
good administration.
Jogaman’s son Permadi
married Vikramaditya’s
daughter princess
Nagadevi. Thus both
the families became blood
relatives.
Badami Chalukya’s
Prince Vikramaditya II
(of the Solanki family) had made a
successful conquest over the Pallava
king Nandiverma. To commemorate
this victory, his wife Lokamahadevi
built the Virupaksheshwar Temple at
Pattadkallu. The prince Kirtiverma
II attacked Kanchi and defeated
the Pallavas. To commemorate that
victory, his queens Lokambika and
Trilokambika built Lokeshweara
and Trilokeshwara temples. These
queens were the sisters and were
the daughters of Kalachuri Haihaya
king. This piece of the information
is inscribed in the Pattadkallu
inscription.
The Haihaya kings were the
descendent’s of Sri Sahasrarjuna
Maharaj’s lineage. Thus, the
Kalachuris and the Badami Chalukyas
(Solankis) were the blood relatives.
History has recorded and confirmed
these facts.

Let Environmental Protection be our Primary Concern
As human beings, we have already done much harm to the
environment. The more civilized we became; the more reluctant
we have become to act and live as part of the nature. Thanks to
the essential psyche of Indians. Compared to our counterparts
elsewhere in the other countries, we stand as hope for others in
the protection of environment. But yet, we have failed to retain
the purity of our rivers and lack the basic sense of cleanliness.
Our forest coverage is still below the expected mark though
we have striven better to enhance and develop our forest cover-
age through the social forestry schemes and programmes. We
worship our rivers as sacred goddesses and yet pollute them.
We worship the god of Air and pollute it. This contradiction
in our thought and action should be stopped. Our traditions and
the basic philosophy have always been insisting on ‘be eco-
friendly’ and on treating the fauna and flora with dignity and
devotion. Let us redeem our pledge to follow the basic tenets of
our philosophy and broad outlook of life. Let us conserve, pro-
tect and enhance the environment around us. Let us remember
that while taking the ‘theertha’ (holy water) in the presence of
deities, we swear that water is the elixir of life and holy. We
swear that we use it with utter devotion and thoughtfulness. Let
us use water frugally.
Trees are living beings. They give us oxygen and keep the
air clean. They regulate the climate and help to hold rain in the
ground. They are the soil conservers and prevent erosion of
soil. They prevent land slides and floods. The trees give us food,
fodder, fertilizer, fuel and fiber. Trees can survive without man
but man cannot live without trees. The ideal forest coverage
should be one-third of the geographical area. We have to plant
more and more trees not necessarily in the forest but around
our habitations. We have to nurture them and protect them. We
have to preserve them for posterity.
We have to achieve higher standards of living without sepa-
rating ourselves from our heritage and without despoiling na-
ture of its beauty, freshness and purity so essential to our lives.
The whole process of environmental protection needs the
participation of the entire World. The present crisis and pro-
cess of change challenges present international policies. The
growing awareness of ‘one earth’ and ‘one environment’ should
guide us to the concept of ‘one humanity’. Therefore, the afflu-
ent countries should bear the burden of costs of environmental
protection of the backward countries.
The population explosion, poverty, ignorance and disease,
the pollution of our surroundings, the stock piling of nuclear
weapons and biological and chemical agents of destruction are
all parts of a vicious circle. As modern beings, we have to re-
establish an unbroken link with nature and with life. We must
again learn to involve growing things and to recognize as our
ancients in India did centuries ago. We have but to take from
the earth and atmosphere only so much as we can put back
into them.
In a hymn to Earth, the sages of the Atharva Veda chanted:
“What of thee I dig out, let that quickly grow over, let me not
hit thy vitals or thy heart”.
Thus, let us be vital and of good heart and conscious of our
responsibility.

KSHATRIYA COMMUNITY
SHOULD BE ORGANIZED
“Kshatriya Community is
spread all over India. There
have been 36 sub-groups within
the larger community. All the
Kshatriyas irrespective of their
sub-castes or groups should
be united. The entire Kshatriya
community’s all round progress
and development is the main aim
and objective of the Kshatriya
Swayam Seva Sangha” social
worker of the community
Raghavendra Kabadi said so. He
was speaking at R.T. Kabadi’s

Even today the Kshatriyas act
whenever the country faces
challenges and dangers. Our
people today should unite and
protest and claim their due
governmental concessions
and facilities. The grass root
solidarity would empower
the Kshatriya Mahasabha.
To achieve this objective the
voluntary service organizations
are formed.

the people to strive for Dharma
Jagrati and for raising the
self-esteem of our people. The
great valiants and indomitable
kings and emperors like
Maharaja Pratap Singh, Shivaji
Maharaj, Prithviraj Chauhan
should be remembered.
Rajput community’s youth

DESIGNED
forabrightcareer!
She hails from the illustrious
House of Khodays
family of Bengaluru and
could have easily joined the
movers and shakers’ brigade,
but she’s one girl who decid-
ed to strive on her own. After
studying at Sophia High School,
graduating from Mount Car-
mel College and completing a
fashion design course from the
Vogue Institute of Fashion Tech-
nology, 26-year-old Chandni
Khoday realised her inclination
towards art and design. “I was
always good at sketching since
childhood so I decided to study
design and get into the fash-
ion industry. After my course,
I worked with designer Pallavi
Foley for two years and she
taught me all about jewellery
and jewellery design. She was
a great mentor and made me
realise that I had potential
and that I should pursue
more in life. I wasn’t yet
ready to start out on my
own, but there was a
keen willingness to learn
more. I have always be-
lieved that there is noth-
ing in this world that one
cannot do and I was
lucky to join the The
Collonnade,” gushes
the pretty and petite
Chandni.
It wasn’t all
hunky dory in the
Khoday family for
the daughter of
KN Madhusudan
and Shamala. “I
come from a fam-
ily where girls get
married right af-
ter college. Luck-
ily, my parents
have always been
quite liberal with
my brother and
me. They always
supported me
and encouraged
me to create my
own world and
live it the way
I want to. Now
I’m independent
of my family and
everything that I
am today is because I wanted
to be financially independent.
I’m strong and independent, yet
calm and patient, free spirited
and a fun loving person,” she
states emphatically. We won-
der if people question her on
why she decided to work
for someone e l s e ,

business, she retorts saying,
“No one really asks me directly.
I’m still in the process of learn-
ing. I feel women should under-
stand that they have unlimited
capacity and they can do any-
thing that they want to.”
A typical day in her life in-
cludes client relationship man-
agement, planning, coordinating
and executing events, liasoning
between the brands and being
the face of the brand. Talking
of the challenges at work, she
says, “I pretty much find a way
to get my way through every-
thing. My boss Mickey Bawa of
In2 Luxury has been a great
mentor. He has always been
there during hard times at
work and empowers me to be
stronge. He has groomed me
to face all the challenges. I
handle a little bit of everything
for all the luxury brands and
manage The Collonnade as
a brand in itself.”
Talking of her other
passions, she recalls,
“I love travelling and
reading. I love danc-
ing as well. Once, I
decided to go back-
packing alone to Goa
to overcome my fear of
deep waters. My friend
and I got into the beach,
right behind our hostel.
We got into the water at
midnight and went deep in-
side the water. That’s when I
realised that the calmest part
of the ocean is not at the shore.
But sadly, just when I was let-
ting go of my fear and en-
joying the moment, the life-
guards came and chased us
out, but that bold moment,
helped
me emerge as a strong-
er and fearless person.”
About her future plans, she
adds, “I would love to travel
abroad and work there for
a while and see where life
takes me.”
