2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
3. MAIN UTILITIES OF DROPBOX
Flexible storage
Avoid overwhelming your computer’s hard drive. With
our Selective Sync feature, you can stop certain folders
from syncing to your computer(s), so you can keep rarely
used files in the cloud, not on your hard drive.
4.
5. CONNECTED ACCOUNTS
Keep your work and personal files in their own spaces.
Just connect your personal and work Dropbox accounts,
and sensitive company information will be kept separate
from your personal files. Access everything in one place,
without the need to switch logins.
6.
7. EXTERNAL SHARING
Instantly send files or folders to people outside your
company using shared links—even if the recipients
aren’t Dropbox users. To keep tabs on sharing, you can
protect those links with passwords and expiration dates.
8.
9. ORGANIZATION-WIDE
COLLABORATION
Use comments to quickly gather feedback right next to
your files. You can also invite your co-workers to shared
folders, where they can add and edit files together.
Changes sync automatically, giving everyone the most
recent versions in their Dropbox folders.
10.
11. TEAM FOLDERS
Create a central workspace so everyone can find what
they need quickly. Team folders are a simple way to give
your entire team access to things like employee
handbooks, departmental goals, and offsite photos.
14. IMPORTANCE OF USING DROPBOX
In the contemporary situation innovation continues developing and evolving. It is basic that
all organizations, particularly independent companies, stay up to date with the most recent
mechanical advancements. As of late, Dropbox has developed as an exceptionally intense,
prominent and valuable programming item. We take a gander at the event of Dropbox for
independent ventures.
18. RECOMENDATIONS
This feature is relatively new and a great way for your references to let other LinkedIn users know about you
Ask for recommendations or endorsements from colleagues, former professors or supervisors.
Give recommendations to others—what goes around, comes around! It will also display your name on those users’
profiles, making you more visible to potential connections.
Groups
Join groups that are of professional interest to you so you can begin to see and connect with others with similar
career fields.
These can be university alumni groups, clubs or associations, industry-specific groups, etc. Most importantly,
join groups that will allow you to connect with people working in your field or industry
Do not confuse “groups” with “companies.”
All companies/businesses are found on the company page, which will be explained in the next section. Groups
could be affiliated with the company, but are separate. Pay careful attention this!
Example: InterExchange Career Training USA has several groups to join (one for alumni, employers, etc.) but we
also have a company page that you can follow. The company page is also where you can view information
about a company such as job openings!
Some groups require authentication.
19. COMPANIES
Many companies will create a “company page” on LinkedIn to represent themselves and build their online presence
The company page is similar to the brand or fan page on Facebook, where a company generates activity and discussions and shares updates.
This page allows you to see basic information about the company and people who you may know that currently work there. You can also view any job openings currently
vacant at the company.
You should follow companies at which you are interested in working so you can see updates about them. If you get an interview with one of these companies, you will have
less research to do later since you will have learned all of this information already.
You can find these company updates on the company’s page or on your homepage/activity feed where you see updates about your connections.
You can also invite people at this company to connect and include a message
Even if they are not the right person to be speaking with about current job openings, they can probably tell you whom you should contact or even put you directly in
touch with that person.
JOBS
The “Jobs” section of the site may seem like the most obvious place to find a job using LinkedIn, but it’s just as important to
maintain a solid group of connections, join groups and stay up-to-date with companies’ news.
In order to search for a job, go to the Jobs page and perform a standard search
You can search by keyword, job title or company.
You can save searches (3 at a time) to come back to at a later time.
The Advanced Search area allows you to narrow your search even further
You can search by your country, industry and even job function.
Make sure to search by your country so you only see positions relevant to your location.
Utilize the location feature, so you can search in your city and/or surrounding area (i.e. Prague) and not just the entire country
(i.e. Czech Republic).
Unfortunately, you have to pay to upgrade your LinkedIn account to “Job Seeker Premium” if you want to search by salary
and have access to other features of the job listings.
