Governor Pataki announced the installation of a new energy conservation system called WEAMS across 50 New York state office buildings to save over $500,000 annually and help meet the goal of reducing state energy consumption by 35% by 2010. The $2.7 million system, provided through an energy company and partially funded by grants, allows real-time monitoring of electric, gas, and water usage to reduce costs and energy consumption. It is designed to eventually monitor additional utilities and has already helped the Office of General Services decrease energy use in its facilities by over 32%.
