  1. Western Australia’s gross state product (GSP) was $243 billion in 2012-13, contributing 16% to Australia’s gross domestic product (GDP). The State’s share of national population was 11% (2.5 million) Western Australia’s GSP rose 5.1% in 2012-13, and was above annual average growth of 4.9% over the past 10 years. Western Australia’s merchandise exports growth was the largest contributor to GSP growth ahead of business investment (up 8.5%) and household consumption (up 4%). In 2013 minerals and petroleum contributed 91% ($113 billion) of the State’s merchandise exports. The State accounted for 27% of Australia’s business investment in 2013 and 51% of the value of Australia’s resource projects under construction or committed in April 2014.
  2. Western Australia is a highly diversified resources and energy economy. Western Australia is a major mining region and a major mineral exporter, very attractive towards substantial resource investment. Mining has a major contribution towards WA growth and its also a major component of its GSP The State alone commands a significant global share of production in many key commodities (2012). Which in addition to iron ore and LNG include; gold, diamonds, alumina, nickel and lithium.

Western Australia has:   AU$146 billion of resource projects under construction or committed and a further AU$112 billion under consideration Large concentration of Australian listed companies based in Perth (35%), particularly from the resources sector (58%) Annual average 4.9 per cent Gross State Product (GSP) growth over the past 10 years and the highest GSP per capita in Australia, 48 per cent higher than the national average Highest average weekly earnings among the Australian States, 17.5 per cent higher than the national average Strategic location to the Asia Pacific and Indian Ocean growth markets with access to capital.

Perth holds the largest number of companies of any Australian State on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX), with 755 companies.   Western Australia is home to:   35 per cent of the total 2,155 ASX listed companies 60 per cent of the 774 ASX listed materials companies 5 per cent of the 261 ASX listed energy companies More than half of the small to mid-cap companies listed on the ASX.
  6. Australian resource companies typically choose to list via the ASX’s Perth office, with 79 per cent of Western Australian based listings in the materials and energy industry sectors. Perth regularly hosts roadshow visits from the Toronto (TSX) and London (AIM) stock exchanges.
