Western Australia’s gross state product (GSP) was $243 billion in 2012-13, contributing 16% to Australia’s gross domestic product (GDP). The State’s share of national population was 11% (2.5 million)
Western Australia’s GSP rose 5.1% in 2012-13, and was above annual average growth of 4.9% over the past 10 years.
Western Australia’s merchandise exports growth was the largest contributor to GSP growth ahead of business investment (up 8.5%) and household consumption (up 4%). In 2013 minerals and petroleum contributed 91% ($113 billion) of the State’s merchandise exports.
The State accounted for 27% of Australia’s business investment in 2013 and 51% of the value of Australia’s resource projects under construction or committed in April 2014.
Western Australia is a highly diversified resources and energy economy. Western Australia is a major mining region and a major mineral exporter, very attractive towards substantial resource investment. Mining has a major contribution towards WA growth and its also a major component of its GSP
