Water is a finite resource that is indispensable to life but not inexhaustible. Currently only 1% of the Earth's water is used by humans, but consumption will need to be reduced or alternative sources found in the future. Showering and bathing use the most water in daily life at 80L and 200L respectively. European water consumption varies significantly between countries, from 252L per person daily in Switzerland to 137L in France. Perceptions of water also differ greatly between wealthy nations and poor regions, as well as between social classes. Just five countries - USA, India, Pakistan, Russia and China - currently use 60% of the world's total water. Global water usage has increased dramatically from 600km3 per year
