DEFINITION
 The walkman is a portable cassette player.
 Sometimes it is also a radio player.
 It is small in size.
 It can only be heard through headphones.
 It is powered by AA batteries.
HISTORY
 On July 1, 1979, the Japanese Company Sony released the
first walkman to the market.
 During the 80s and 90s it was the most popular player to
listen to music.
 The vinyl was replaced by the walkman.
 The walkman was replaced by the discman.
EXTERNALLY
 They have the following elements and its functions:
1. Control buttons: play, fast forward, rewind, hight and pause.
2. Power button: turns on and off.
3. Band selector: choose frequency AM or FM.
4. Volume: turns up and down the sound.
5. Station selector: choose the radio station.
6. Audio output: sends tha signal to the headphones.
7. Visualizer: have drawn the different radio bands.
8. Rotors (2): make turn the cassette.
9. Front battery compartment
A. Cover: protects the internal circuits and mechanisms, also
gives aesthetic the cassette player
INTERNALLY
 They have a series of circuits, an electric motor that turns
the tape and an electromagnetic head of reading.
CHARACTERISTICS
 Walkmans are usually rectangular.
 They have an altert current input and avoid the use of
batteries.
 There were different models:
CASSETTE
 They had two sides (A and B) of 30,45 or 60 minutes of
recorded music on each.
 You could re-record and delete several times: advantage.
 The cassettes entangled inside the walkman: disvantage.
FUN FACTS
 Stard Lord in the film The Guardians of the Galaxy appears
with a walkman.
 Also appears in the Sport Walkman Barbie 80s.
 Two myths of the time were united: Naranjito and Walkman.
 There is a Spanish pop rock music group: “ The Walkman”.
