Readability of the Top 50 Prescribed Drugs in Wikipedia
This study investigated the readability of drug information articles on Wikipedia. The Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level was used to analyze the reading level of articles on the top 50 prescribed drugs on Wikipedia. The mean grade level found was 15.5, which is substantially higher than the 9th grade level considered easy to understand by the Department of Health and Human Services. While Wikipedia provides accessibility, the reading level of drug information presents a potential barrier to comprehension. Simplifying the language used could improve understanding for users with a variety of literacy levels.
