TOUR EXPERIENCE
Fiona Oliver has had extensive experience touring a company.
Touring with a small ballet company (Serenade Ballet
Company…Under Direction of Madam Kira Bousloff) in the late 70’s
to regional and remote WA started Fiona’s thirst for a touring dance
company in 1982, Fiona founded her own company Daedalus, which
focused on regional and remote WA for each season in 1983, 1984
and 1985.
In 1982 prior to the touring season starting, Fiona gathered sponsors
for goods and services to the value of $78,000.00
Major sponsors of this company were Honda Australia 1983, Perth
Building Society 1984 and Peters Ice Cream and Browns 1985.
Fiona not only marketed the company but also Artistically Directed
the company and trained the dancers in the OMOSD syllabus.

Fiona’s expertise in Budgeting, Strategic Planning, Booking,
Marketing and Promoting Regional and Remote tours goes back 30

13. The Oliver Method of Safe Dance (OMOSD), exercise and rehabilitation is a safe dance
syllabus specialising in core strength correct alignment and biomechanics.
If an injury already exists the student is worked with to rehabilitate this injury prior to further
technique.
OMOSD’s main aim is to bring about an awareness of correct body alignment and core
stability together with the strengthening of the skeletal muscles whilst understanding their
individual ROM of the body and joints.
15. The Oliver Method of Safe Dance, Exercise and Rehabilitation (OMOSD), has been over 40 years
in the making.
This method has been developed over time based on the trial and tribulations of its developer
Fiona Oliver. Fiona arrived at this point through a number of “light bulb” moments based on
some interesting training exercises and momentous accidents in her life. All of the exercises
have been developed based on good practice, knowledge of physical anatomy, and her personal
life experiences.
Fiona started dancing at three years old , and trained in R.A.D Classical Ballet and C.S.T.D
Classical Ballet, Jazz ( Modern Stage), Tap, Character and Acrobatics.
Throughout the years she developed problems with her knees from locking into sway back legs
in classical; her feet from pointe work; her ankles and knees from Tap and Jazz ,and various
problems with her wrists, lower back and knees from Acrobatics.
Fiona also developed large thighs, buttocks and calf muscles from the Classical Ballet techniques
she was trained in. Along with all of these issues she also developed a very regimented arm and
upper body movement. In her teenage years, Fiona began participating in classes with
numerous teachers in an attempt to improve on the above problems, to no avail.
However, she was acknowledged as promising enough to audition with the Australian Ballet.
16. At the age of nineteen - just prior to this monumental audition - Fiona had a car accident which
saw her break a car windscreen with her body. As a result , major injuries were sustained in this
accident. Questions as to whether she was able to walk or dance again were posed (even if she
would have some quality of life). Orthodox methods of treatment appeared to make things
worse. Fiona then started to exercise herself, and each exercise and movement that created
relief and support , Fiona wrote down.
Through the next ten years Fiona was to be involved in another four car accidents, one of which
was a head on with a truck! Further injuries were sustained, old injuries were made worse (even
after the improvements that Fiona had made through her own exercise regime).
After successfully rehabilitating her back from the first accident, she was then faced over the
following ten years with different injuries including her shoulders (gaps in the joints from them
being wrenched out of the sockets), upper back (weakened skeletal muscles causing scoliosis),
lower back (bulging vertebrae) and neck (4 bulging vertebrae). The only part that she did not
have a problem with was her hips.
Again Fiona worked on herself, as orthodox methods appeared to only make things worse. As
each exercise retrained her body, and gave the movement the rehabilitation required, Fiona
again wrote it down. Fiona found that all of the exercises she had written, had the potential to
become a training program, and retraining process for people from all walks of life.
17. On the 30th June 2006, Fiona had her sixth car accident. Her car was hit from behind twice
while her left foot was on the clutch. This accident put her hips out of alignment, which gave
her yet another physical area of the body to research, and design a set of exercises for
rehabilitation.
As a result of all this research, Fiona found that if the legs were out, the back hurt, if the torso
was incorrect her hips and spine hurt. From all of her knowledge and experience together with
her own trials over a 40 year period she was able to dance and perform again thus...
OMOSD Safe Dance and Rehabilitation was born.
