This document analyzes the convergence of productivity across regions in Portugal from 1986 to 1994 using panel data models. It finds:
1) Absolute convergence of output per worker for each economic sector and across all sectors at the NUTS II regional level.
2) Results show statistically significant convergence coefficients for each sector and the total economy for different model specifications.
3) The study also examines agglomeration patterns across Portuguese regions using New Economic Geography models that emphasize the importance of spatial factors like distance, transport costs, and communication in explaining the concentration of economic activity.
