THE ESSENCE OF VITRA
A HISTORY OF INGENUITY
VitrA’s rich heritage can be traced back to 1909, when renowned Turkish
pharmacist Süleyman Ferit Eczacibaşi began producing bathing and cologne
products at his pharmacy in Izmir.
Three decades later, his son, Dr Nejat Eczacibaşi, took the family business
a step further by establishing a pharmaceutical laboratory in Istanbul. The
business continued to grow steadily, and by 1952 he had opened Turkey’s
first modern pharmaceutical factory. Within a few years, Eczacibaşi’s vision
had grown further still, and with the establishment of Turkey’s first ceramic
sanitaryware factory in 1958, VitrA was born.

VitrA’s rimless WC pan technology dispenses with
one of the most unhygienic aspects of traditional
WC design, where hard-to-clean rims can harbour
germs and allow them to multiply unchecked. The
unique design of our Rim-Ex pans incorporates a
water diverter to direct the flush around the bowl,
which can be removed easily for cleaning.

mess of cisterns, pipes, u-bends and other functional
elements spoiling the look and ambience. Using a wall-hung
frame is the answer, and aside from a much tidier look, there
are lots of practical benefits too.

Not only is the cistern
concealed behind a wall,
but it’s also manufactured
with a specially-engineered
fill valve, and lined with
insulating styrofoam to
keep filling noise to an
absolute minimum.

Keeping a bathroom clean

usually a haven for dust, is
completely concealed, and
with the WC pan fixed above
the floor, it’s so much easier

5 METAL STAND
Metal stands enable easy
adjustment of height from
the floor and secure fixing.
6 FLUSHING VALVE
The flushing valve transfers
the water in the cistern
to the WC pan for flushing.

units are subjected to
200,000 water-tightness
and accelerated life tests

1 FLUSH PLATE
The flush plate operates the
cistern. It enables easy operation
of the wall-hung frame and covers
internal parts that remain in the wall.
4 OVERFLOW PIPE
The overflow pipe in the flushing
mechanism takes the safety duty
in wall-hung frames. When too
much water enters the cistern, the
overflow pipe channels the excess
water into the WC pan, preventing
the risk of flooding.
8 PANEL GAP
The panel gap on the body is
designed to provide optimum
opening space for maintenance
of filling or flushing units, enabling
easy access to the cistern. The
size of this gap is very important
for servicing purposes.
3 FILLING VALVE
The filling valve is the system
that fills the cistern with water.
The filling valve is checked in
VitrA labs for “water-tightness”
via accelerated life testing 200,000
times. The filters above the filling
valve eliminate the risk of clogging,
ensuring durability and a long
lifetime. New VitrA filling systems
ensure fast and silent filling.
9 INTERMEDIARY HOSE
The intermediary hose that connects
to the water piping inside the cistern
can isolate the water flow during
service-oriented interventions, which
enables easy replacement of parts.
7 BODY STYROFOAM
The Styrofoam
that coats the entire
lower body prevents
condensation in the
cistern and ensures
sound insulation.
2 BODY
The filling and flushing valves are
located in this part of the cistern.
Produced from polyethylene (HDPE)
raw materials, it offers more safety
with its flexibility and resilience.
