This document outlines visual arts education standards and benchmarks for grades K-8 in the Diocese of Madison. It was developed based on national standards, modified by local art educators to fit the diocese's programs. The standards focus on four main areas: creating art using various media and techniques; investigating and applying design principles and artistic elements; perceiving and analyzing artistic works; and relating art to societal, cultural, and historical contexts. The document recommends that schools provide at least 45 minutes of visual arts instruction per week to help students master the standards, and provides guidance for schools without a dedicated art teacher.
