ARTICLE REVIEW INSTRUCTIONS
You will write an article review, relevant to this week's learning module and readings. You will select the article yourself by searching the UWA Library Databases. The article you choose should be a research article (has a hypothesis that is empirically tested). Pick an article relevant to a topic covered in the weekly readings. Each review is worth 20 points.  The review should be 1-2 single-spaced pages in a 12-point font. It is in your best interest to submit your review before it is due so you may check your originality report and correct any spelling and grammatical errors identified by the software program.
The purpose of the review is to provide students knowledge of how research is conducted and reported. The main part of your review needs to include the following information. Please comment on these aspects of the article as part of your review. Provide only the briefest summary of content. What I am most interested in is your critique and connection to weekly readings.
Reference. Listed at the top of the paper in APA style.
Introduction. Read the introduction carefully. The introduction should contain:
· A thorough literature review that establishes the nature of the problem to be addressed in the present study (the literature review is specific to the problem)
· The literature review is current (generally, articles within the past 5 years)
· A logical sequence from what we know (the literature review) to what we don't know (the unanswered questions raised by the review and what this study intended to answer

Executive Summary
The executive summary needs to provide an overview of the whole report. The executive summary outlines the purpose, research methods, your findings based on your research, and main conclusions (200 words max – not part of the word count).
Introduction
In your introduction outline what you are going to do and the position you are adopting - please use your introduction as a map to cover the points you outline sequentially in the body of your report to stay on track. An introduction needs to include:

· context & background rationale (analysis of existing literature on the topic and how your project contributes to the field).
You also need to set limits on the research by identifying what you are going to cover and sticking to it (your road map).
The Study Method
Here you should outline how you went about collecting your data. You should explain and justify aspects such as:

· Their characteristics (e.g. age, occupational background, student, retiree, etc.)
· The average length of the interviews
· When the interviews were conducted
· How you went about your data analysis (e.g. thematic approach).
The Findings
In this section you will present your findings from the analysis of the interview data. You may choose to do this in terms of ‘themes’ found in your interviews, or a ‘narrative’ approach which tells the ‘stories’ of your research participants. You will want to present selective direct quotations that are illustrative of key themes which emerged from your data analysis. Remember, you do not need to present everything that your interviewees said. Be selective. When writing this section, think about:
· Does every reference to the data speak to the theme that I am discussing?
· Am I adequately telling a ‘story’ or simply summarising?
· Have I included a good combination of quotes and description?
· Have I focused on quality themes discussed in depth over a large number of themes that are briefly discussed?

Your analysis and arguments must all be supported by your references - every comment you make that presents as a fact. Assertion or argument has to be substantiated with a good reference that is cited or quoted in the text. Marks are lost for unsubstantiated opinions. In fact, your opinion is not sought here. What we are interested in is your capacity to synthesise and communicate well-researched information and relate it to your own research findings. This phase of the course project requires you to write a Literature Review. The literature review must be at least 1,900 words of text (graphics, tables, etc. [non-textual items] can be inserted in an APA-formatted appendix), contain a minimum of 10 peer-reviewed sources (scholarly journal articles), follow current APA format, contain a title page, reference page, and an appendix section if needed for non-textual items.

Ideally a literature review must contain 3 main sections; however, for this course you only need to focus on Section 1.
1. Tell what the research says (theory).
2. Tell how the research was carried out (methodology).
3. Tell what is missing, the “gap” that your research intends to fill.
Writing a literature review entails conducting research, but to be more specific it states the following information.
· Establishes a theoretical framework for your HCI problem/topic (subject area).
· Defines key terms, definitions and terminology.
· Identifies studies, models, case studies, etc. that support your problem/topic.
· Defines/establishes your problem or area of study.
To conduct your research you will need to review related literature to your HCI IS problem. The Jerry Falwell Library should be used to conduct your research along with this course textbook and previous course textbooks. Your peer reviewed research must lead to an appropriate IS solution to your problem and should answer the following question: what literature attempts to solve my problem? Your literature review must contain the following sections with supporting writing.
Introduction
· Establishes a theoretical framework for your problem/topic (subject area)
· Briefly state the importance of IS.
· Briefly re-state your Project Problem and Project Purpose that you wrote in Phase 1.
· Why do you need this?

As we begin this journey together over the next eight weeks, it is imperative to understand the key concepts incorporated within the course, as well as the overall purpose of taking the course. As President John F. Kennedy has been quoted, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”
Service-learning versus volunteering: Aren’t they one and the same? The correct answer is “no” as there are differences. Volunteering allows for activities which place the emphasis on the recipient. (Providing meals at the local homeless shelter places the emphasis on the recipient being fed for that particular meal.) Service-learning activities differ from volunteering in the INTENT involved. This intent with service-learning utilizes intellectual capacities which in turn address problems within the community. (There is a growing number of homeless individuals in the community – what activities can be performed to address this problem?)
Following this example, we can see that service learning allows us to become an educated community member and problem-solver through serving and collaboratively reflecting on the meaning and purpose of the activities put into that service. The entire purpose of service-learning is therefore learning to grow in skills and knowledge because these assets are being brought to real-world problems.
As we evaluate these skills, we need to have the understanding of civic capacity. This is knowing how to APPLY our knowledge and skills to the community challenges we are analyzing. This capacity is developed when we are able to look deeper at the connection between academic knowledge and experience.
Putting each of these concepts together, service-learning, therefore impacts our community positively in order to address societal and political challenges, and generate the positive changes necessary for both individuals and within the system we are looking to change.Preview of Your Final Project

Executive Summary
The executive summary needs to provide an overview of the whole report. The executive summary outlines the purpose, research methods, your findings based on your research, and main conclusions (200 words max – not part of the word count).
Introduction
In your introduction outline what you are going to do and the position you are adopting - please use your introduction as a map to cover the points you outline sequentially in the body of your report to stay on track. An introduction needs to include:

The Study Method
Here you should outline how you went about collecting your data. You should explain and justify aspects such as:

· Their characteristics (e.g. age, occupational background, student, retiree, etc.)
· The average length of the interviews
· When the interviews were conducted
· How you went about your data analysis (e.g. thematic approach).
The Findings
In this section you will present your findings from the analysis of the interview data. You may choose to do this in terms of ‘themes’ found in your interviews, or a ‘narrative’ approach which tells the ‘stories’ of your research participants. You will want to present selective direct quotations that are illustrative of key themes which emerged from your data analysis. Remember, you do not need to present everything that your interviewees said. Be selective. When writing this section, think about:
· Does every reference to the data speak to the theme that I am discussing?
· Am I adequately telling a ‘story’ or simply summarising?
· Have I included a good combination of quotes and description?
· Have I focused on quality themes discussed in depth over a large number of themes that are briefly discussed?

Together with the findings, this is the most important aspect of the report. In this section you need to discuss your findings in relation to the existing literature/research on your chosen topic. Your analysis and arguments must all be supported by your references - every comment you make that presents as a fact. Assertion or argument has to be substantiated with a good reference that is cited or quoted in the text. Marks are lost for unsubstantiated opinions. In fact, your opinion is not sought here. What we are interested in is your capacity to synthesise and communicate well-researched information and relate it to your own research findings. hen Will Wilkinson decided to major in phi-

This phase of the course project requires you to write a Literature Review. The literature review must be at least 1,900 words of text (graphics, tables, etc. [non-textual items] can be inserted in an APA-formatted appendix), contain a minimum of 10 peer-reviewed sources (scholarly journal articles), follow current APA format, contain a title page, reference page, and an appendix section if needed for non-textual items.
Instructions
Ideally a literature review must contain 3 main sections; however, for this course you only need to focus on Section 1.
1. Tell what the research says (theory).
2. Tell how the research was carried out (methodology).
3. Tell what is missing, the “gap” that your research intends to fill.
Writing a literature review entails conducting research, but to be more specific it states the following information.
· Establishes a theoretical framework for your HCI problem/topic (subject area).
· Defines key terms, definitions and terminology.
· Identifies studies, models, case studies, etc. that support your problem/topic.
· Defines/establishes your problem or area of study.
To conduct your research you will need to review related literature to your HCI IS problem. The Jerry Falwell Library should be used to conduct your research along with this course textbook and previous course textbooks. Your peer reviewed research must lead to an appropriate IS solution to your problem and should answer the following question: what literature attempts to solve my problem? Your literature review must contain the following sections with supporting writing.
Introduction
· Establishes a theoretical framework for your problem/topic (subject area)
· Briefly state the importance of IS.
· Briefly re-state your Project Problem and Project Purpose that you wrote in Phase 1.

Policy briefs, or memos as they are sometimes called, differ from typical academic research papers in some respects. Their main purpose is to provide analysis and recommendations to a limited audience of policymakers and their staffs so that they can make an informed decision. These people do not have lots of time to do their own research and read long documents. Therefore, the brief must give the policymaker access to a lot of information in a clear, concise and well-organized fashion.

. In defining an issue, you take a position on the scope and seriousness of the problem and identify one or more causes. How do we know that the problem really exists? How does the problem manifest itself? What is the severity of the problem and who is affected most? Who and how many people are affected (supply metrics if available)? What are the various costs of the problem to individuals, communities and the nation? What are the cause or causes of the problem? What is the evidence to link the cause to the problem? If multiple causes exist, identify root and proximate causes. Focus your more in depth analysis on only one or two of the causes. Use numbers and comparisons to help readers understand the problem.

. What alternative approaches exist for reducing or eliminating the problem or mitigating its effects? Discuss at least two. What steps can the federal/state/local government take to address the problem? The purpose of the final assignment is for you to analyze an existing policy (at the federal, state, or local level) and discuss its impact on a social problem. You aren’t proposing a policy, but analyzing an existing policy of interest to you.
Be sure to take enough time reading about the policy you selected to thoroughly understand it in an in-depth way and be able to confidently answer the questions in the assignment.
Please take time to carefully read each question in the assignment and be sure to answer it. As you proof-read your paper, take the opportunity to again review the assignment and double check that you have thoroughly but succinctly provided the information for each applicable question.

Today, social policy and public administrative movement are closely associated with social program outcomes and effective evaluations.
This week, you present your design for a program addressing the needs of the homeless population in your community and analyze how your program may effect social change. You also evaluate your potential to impact areas of human services delivery and assess the benefits of participating in professional human services organizations.

As part of this culminating submission, you will provide a succinct but efficient overview of content areas examined in your written assignments from Weeks One through Four that will aid in the development of an original intervention (i.e., strategy, application, or technique) for human service professionals to utilize for your selected social issue. This model intervention must be of your own design as opposed to a review of an existing practice used to address this issue. You can, however, use your knowledge of best practices to inform your intervention. The Capstone Project is intended to demonstrate your mastery of all learning outcomes related to the B.A. program in Health and Human Services; therefore, successful completion will require reflection, critical thinking, and knowledge of subject matter areas addressed in previous coursework. As we begin this journey together over the next eight weeks, it is imperative to understand the key concepts incorporated within the course, as well as the overall purpose of taking the course. As President John F. Kennedy has been quoted, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”
Service-learning versus volunteering: Aren’t they one and the same? The correct answer is “no” as there are differences. Volunteering allows for activities which place the emphasis on the recipient. (Providing meals at the local homeless shelter places the emphasis on the recipient being fed for that particular meal.) Service-learning activities differ from volunteering in the INTENT involved. This intent with service-learning utilizes intellectual capacities which in turn address problems within the community. (There is a growing number of homeless individuals in the community – what activities can be performed to address this problem?)
Following this example, we can see that service learning allows us to become an educated community member and problem-solver through serving and collaboratively reflecting on the meaning and purpose of the activities put into that service. The entire purpose of service-learning is therefore learning to grow in skills and knowledge because these assets are being brought to real-world problems.
As we evaluate these skills, we need to have the understanding of civic capacity. This is knowing how to APPLY our knowledge and skills to the community challenges we are analyzing. This capacity is developed when we are able to look deeper at the connection between academic knowledge and experience.
Putting each of these concepts together, service-learning, therefore impacts our community positively in order to address societal and political challenges, and generate the positive changes necessary for both individuals and within the system we are looking to change.Preview of Your Final Project
Over the next few weeks we will be learning about service learning and investigating a community organization. You will begin to put this information together to evaluate the role of the community organization that you have chosen. You will support your ideas with the literature resources that you have found.

The coronavirus seeks only to replicate. We seek to halt that replication. Unlike the virus, humans make
choices. This pandemic will pass into history. But the way in which it passes will shape the world it leaves
behind. It is the first such pandemic for a century. And it comes to a world that — unlike in 1918, when
the Spanish flu hit — has been at peace and enjoys unprecedented wealth. We should be able to
manage it well. If we do not do so, this will be a turning point for the worse. Making the right decisions
requires that we understand the options and their moral implications. We now confront two
fundamental sets of choices: within our countries and across borders. In high-income countries, the
biggest choice is how aggressively to halt transmission of the virus. But we also need to decide who will
bear the costs of that choice and how. Some continue to argue that it is wrong to force the economy
into a depression to suppress transmission of the virus. This, they suggest, will cause unnecessary
disruption. If, instead, the virus is left to spread relatively freely, we can achieve “herd immunity”,
sustain the economy and still focus resources on the vulnerable. Yet it is not clear that the economy
would fare better under this relatively laissez faire “mitigation” policy than under one of determined
“suppression”. Long before government-imposed lockdowns, many people stopped travelling or going
to restaurants, cinemas or shops. Decisive action to suppress the virus and follow up with testing and
tracking of new infections could well end the inevitable economic slump even sooner than otherwise.
What seems quite certain is the global health system would fare much better under suppression than
mitigation. Under the latter, argues the Imperial College Covid-19 Response Team, the health systems of
the UK and US would be overwhelmed: large numbers of predominantly old people would be left to die
untreated. It was presumably to prevent this from happening across China that the government
suppressed the virus so fiercely in Hubei. Could a health calamity that is unacceptable in China be
acceptable in the UK or US? Yet the critics are also right: it will be impossible to close large parts of our
economies for very long. If suppression is to be tried, it must be successful quickly and resurgence of the
virus must be throttled. Meanwhile, central banks and governments must seek to keep as much of the
economy going as possible, preserve as much productive capacity intact as possible and ensure that the
people, above all the vulnerable, are generously protected in whatever way a country finds practical.
The solidarity between countries needs to be as strong as within them. The financial instability and
looming recession (probably depression) we see coming will inflict huge harm on emerging and

Part 1: Create a 10 slide Power point presentation based on your experiences as a consultant The rubric tells you what the instructor is looking for and how presentations will be evaluated. Part 2 : In addition, students will submit a typed 5-page report describing this experience , (double-spaced, including a title page and a reference page,12- point font, with one-inch margins), and formatted in American Sociological Association (ASA) style. The report will be submitted to Turnitin.com. Minimally, the Field Consultant Project Report should include
