2. In medicine and in art a balanced
perspective is necessary to reach
scientific conclusions and aesthetic
beauty.
If you leave an element out of the
picture or lack balance in composition,
The end result will be a poor.

Resolutions January 2008:
1. Get Medical Insurance for the whole family
2. Get little Freddie into a special needs school
3. Fred gets a job in his field
4. Spend more time together as a family
5. Get a two bedroom apartment

7. Fred was happy with his new job.
But he was very tired,
He went to the doctor and was
diagnosed with hypertension.

8. During the months of
January, February
and March of 2009,
Fred was in constant
pain.

9. On Friday March 13th, We went toa state of the art ER because Fred was in so much pain .
We waited three hours before being sent home.

10. Fred was hospitalized on March 25th 2009
for the administration of tests.
On March 27th, he was told while alone that
he had “tumors and growths.”
He was scared and confused and did not understand.
His oncologist left town for the next four days to a medical
conference and was not reachable by phone or email.

11. What was the diagnosis? What were the treatment options? Would he get a pain consult?

I was told it would cost

And we would have to
wait 21 days to get a copy.

than from our local hospital ?
Within one day were in email contact
and then spoke on the phone.
By ten o’clock May 4th 2009, I was
talking on the phone with Dave’s
oncologist about my husband’s cancer.

18. Going to Hospice

19. We fulfilled our final 2008 resolution on June 11th 2009.
We moved into a two bedroom apartment so I could care for Fred in home hospice.
He died six days later on June 17th, 2009

Vision is also
seeing into the future, and helping
the brightest ideas become reality.

dystopian future?
Are we creating a future where patients
must fight for data access using the tools
of mobile health?
How will that data be organized? Will it
be in information silos without ease of
access?
Are we compromising care delivery due
to delay and inefficient communication?

26. Will we create EMR
systems where doctors
feel like fast food workers?
Will they live a life
clicking fields and data entry?

27. Will we create a system where the
patient feels divided?
Where the concept of a medical home
is a fantasy due to fractured networks of
Communication?

28. Will concepts like a
Blue Button Download,
be used as a torrent of information that drowns
the user?

29. We decide which future we want.

Health Information Technology becomes part of hospital workflow.

31. WiFi allows every patient to access their portal in real-time while hospitalized.

32. This becomes the real meaning of
the “I” in HIT.

33. Why not have CDS (clinical decision support) for patients?
If a child’s toy can figure any item in the world in 20 questions, whycan’t we have CPOE
and CDS in every hospital and family practice?

34. Imagine a future where patients can
access data from the devices
inside of their bodies.

35. Meaningful Use becomes a love story.

36. We can make a future where the symbol of a blue button,
means open access, better health and ease of data transmission.
We can open data sets and let brilliant minds work with patients
and providers to create the kind of apps that improve health outcomes.

37. You can take a negative and turn
it into a POSITVE.
It is a matter of
VISION.
