The remaining 46% ($6.4 billion) was net income, from which Visa paid $1.2 billion in dividends and $3 billion to buy back common stock, retaining the rest. Visa has very wide profit margins at 65% operating margin, much higher than the average large company at 17%, helping to explain its strong stock performance over time.
