• Virtual Reality (VR)
is the use of computer technology to create a
simulated environment. Unlike traditional user
interfaces, Virtual Reality makes sure that the user is
inside an artificial world (3D) experience by simulating
as many senses as possible, such as vision,
hearing, touch and even smell.
• Side note:
Virtual Reality is not the same as Augmented Reality.
Augmented reality actually uses the same technology
as Virtual Reality, the only difference is that you can still
see the real environment. For example: with
augmented reality you can see the room with a
hologram for example.

• VR can be applied to a slew of business needs.
It is certainly the technology of the future. Of course, as
the prices drop and the technology becomes even
better, more companies will start working with Virtual
Reality.

5. E X A M P L E 1 • VR can also be used in highly sensitive fields to
ensure that employees are well-trained and qualified
before they undertake important or potentially
dangerous tasks. In the health care industry, for
example, VR can be used to train and test surgeons
before they actually operate on somebody.

6. E X A M P L E 2 • Products and services can also be tested on the
basis of Virtual Reality. This is possible for example in
research for product development, but customers can
also try out the products. This way, the company can
create a strong emotional connection with the
customers.

7. E X A M P L E 3 • Face Your Fears. Frightening scenes sometimes also
take place in the workplace, in virtual reality
employees can learn to deal with these fears.

• VR technology is not disruptive to a certain extent:
The technology can cause a paradigm shift in
companies, which means that VR has the capability of
changing the traditional methods of business

• This technology has a medium-sized (enterprise value) green dot
(deployment risk) on the Gartner Technology Map.
-> The deployment risk is low; which means that VR is a technology with a
lot of potential for future success. For example, it is already an important
technology in the medical world.
-> The enterprise value is great. Virtual Reality is of great value to
companies that can afford it such as hospitals and so on ... Once it gets
cheaper and better, it will be indispensable in the business world. As
mentioned in the previous slide, VR is creating a paradigm shift, with the
capabilities to change the traditional way of doing things.

• I think Virtual Reality is a real game changer. VR can
ensure that dangerous tasks and difficult processes
can be tested efficiently. That is why this technology
is so interesting and important in the future business
world.
