Travel and tourism contributes significantly to Vietnam's GDP and employment. It accounted for 4.6% of GDP in 2013 and is expected to grow. Tourism also supports around 3.7% of total employment. To attract more visitors, Vietnam has implemented visa exemptions and visa waivers for citizens of some European countries. There are recommendations to further expand visa on arrival and transit programs to increase tourism. Developing workers' skills through training programs and improving destination marketing also have potential to boost the tourism industry, though larger government budgets would be needed to fully realize this.
