Lesson Plan: The Middle Ages (500 – 1500 C.E.)
• There are three general historic eras include ancient history, the
Middle Ages and modern history.
• This lesson is about the Middle Ages, Dark Ages or medieval time,
which is started with the fall of the Roman Empire in 476 and to
have lasted about 1,000 years until about 1450.
• After 476, life in Europe was pretty tough; trade and commerce
collapsed, travel was dangerous, and the educational system was so
poor that kings and nobles couldn’t even write their own names.
• Nevertheless, the Middle Ages, as this era is known today, saw the
rise of great military and political leaders, as well as amazing artistic,
poetic, and architectural achievements.
