Backup Exec™
Purchasing Guide
Your quick guide to deciding which
Backup Exec license is right for you
What type of pricing model
would work best for your business?
I want to pay upfront so
I own the license and
get fixed term support.
PERPETUAL
LICENSINGis best for you.
It allows you to use a specific version
of the software continually for a single
fee. You pay an upfront charge for the
license and a limited maintenance period.
After the support period ends, you can
continue to use the software without
support, or pay a fee for support
and upgrades.
I want to pay monthly
for the license and
ongoing support.
SUBSCRIPTION
LICENSINGis best for you.
You can license the product for a
specific term of 12, 24 or 36 months.
During this time, you can use the product,
install updates and receive technical
support. If the subscription term is not
renewed, you lose the right to use the
product for backups, although restores
are still allowed.
A B
Backup Exec licensing is available in Bronze, Silver and Gold, depending
on the level of functionality you require, and available in both Perpetual
and Subscription licensing options.
Which package is best for you?
Choose
BRONZE
for standard
functionality:

for on-premise
and cloud
	Install and protect
physical, virtual and
cloud file severs
	Data deduplication
across all your data,
including to cloud
	Backup to tape,
disk or cloud
	 Windows backups
	 24x7 support
Choose
SILVER
if you need all the
functionality of Bronze, plus:
	Backup to Linux
	Protection and
granular recovery of
apps and databases
	Physical tape library
(up to 4 drives)
Choose
GOLD
if you need all the
functionality of Silver, plus:
	Centralized
management of
backup servers for
multi-site locations
	Unlimited physical or
virtual tape library
	Central backup
server management
	NDMP and SAN
shared storage
	What level of functionality
are you looking for?
All levels of licensing include unlimited deployment of the Backup Exec
server, options and agents in the license selected, provided the number
of front-end terabytes (FETB) of data being protected does not exceed
the number specified in your license (with a minimum of 1TB license per
Backup Exec server). Discounts are available for higher data volumes, with
tier discounts applied at the time of transaction depending on the number
of Terabytes you require.
The tiers available are:
1-5 TB | 6-15 TB | 16-25 TB | 26 – 50 TB | 51+ TB
Unsure how much data
you need to protect?
Use our Capacity Assessment Tool to help calculate what you need.
How to get more / take advantage
of tier discounts:
If you opt for Allocated Capacity Licensing, you can purchase licenses
for the total FETB needed and allocate different capacity licensing to
different Backup Exec servers, including those on different sites.
This allows you to take advantage of tier pricing.
You can take advantage of higher per-TB discount tiers by purchasing a
great number up-front. Since discounts are per-transaction, adding more
at a later date may qualify for a lower level of discount.
How many TBs of production data
do you need to protect?
Perpetual licensing
If you chose Perpetual licensing, you
can buy a support package for:
1 YEAR | 2 YEARS | 3 YEARS
Subscription licensing
If you opted for Subscription licensing,
you get support and maintenance included
for the duration of your subscription:
1 YEAR | 2 YEARS | 3 YEARS
	How long do you
need support for?
	Are you an existing
Backup Exec customer?
You should continue to renew your maintenance and increase your
existing license requirements based on the license meter currently in use.
This will entitle you to use Backup Exec and all its new advantages.
