This document summarizes the Victorian Coastal Strategy, which provides a long-term vision and policies for managing Victoria's coastline. The strategy is guided by a hierarchy of principles: 1) protect significant environmental and cultural values, 2) undertake integrated planning and provide clear direction, and 3) ensure sustainable use of natural coastal resources. Only when these principles are addressed can 4) development be located in existing environments where impacts can be managed sustainably. The strategy identifies key issues along the coast and sets out desired outcomes, policies and actions to achieve its vision of a healthy coast appreciated by all, now and in the future.
