This document discusses the development and validation of an on-road driver performance assessment (DPA) designed to inform learner drivers about their progress in acquiring driving proficiency within an educational context, focusing on higher order skills based on the GDE matrix. Two pilot studies were conducted to evaluate the reliability and predictive validity of DPA scores, with results indicating significant differences in scores between learners who passed and failed final exams. The findings underscore the importance of competence-oriented assessments in enhancing driver training programs.
