Uzair Hajibayov was an Azerbaijani composer born in 1885 who is considered the father of Azerbaijani classical music and opera. He composed the national anthem of Azerbaijan and three famous comedies: Leyli and Majnun, Koroghlu, and Arshin Mal Alan. Hajibayov is recognized for establishing a new musical culture in Azerbaijan by combining European and Azerbaijani folk musical elements.
