The project involved students living aboard a virtual ship, learning about healthy habits as they visited different islands. LANDOVER HILLS, MD -- New Hope Academy a parent-founded international pre-K to 12th grade school in Landover Hills is hosted an “Unlimited Learning” event as a part of National Summer Learning Day 2009 and a kick off to the schools 20th Anniversary. On July 9th the school hosted a FREE PUBLIC event featuring panelist talking about the “unlimited learning” opportunities summer learning can provide students. Panelist covered topics related to science, technology, engineering, mathematics, reading, languages and culture, virtual distance learning and support resources for parents.

The week’s activities will culminate with Summer Learning Day on July 9, an annual national event organized by the National Center for Summer Learning to focus attention on how quality summer learning programs help close the achievement gap and promote healthy development.

This is a historic opportunity to use new public dollars for summer learning programs and help thousands more children achieve their full potential.”
Research shows that all children experience learning loss when they don’t engage in educational activities during the summer. Here are simple, low-cost things parents can do to make sure their children are active and engaged this summer:

The National Center for Summer Learning encourages parents to make the most of children's summer break with the following suggestions:

• The library is a great, free resource. Check out books that interest your child. Participate in free library summer programs and make time to read every day.
• Take free or low-cost educational trips to parks, museums, zoos and nature centers.
• If you are taking a day trip by car, choose a place with an educational theme. Camping is also is low-cost way to get outside and learn about nature.
• Practice math daily: Measure items around the house or yard. Track daily temperatures. Add and subtract at the grocery store. Learn fractions while cooking.
• Play outside. Limit TV and video games. Intense physical activity and exercise contribute to healthy development.
• Do a community service project. Teach your child how to volunteer in your community and show compassion to others.

Remote teaching for Plan Ceibal in Uruguay a road to democratisation
Plan Ceibal is an Uruguayan initiative that provides every public primary and secondary school student and teacher with an OLPC laptop and free internet access. It aims to improve education quality and equity through technological innovations, teacher training, and community involvement. VLARINA - An eTwinning project 2012-13 (Greece-Serbia-Italy)
The Students participating in this project had the opportunity to meet fellow mates from other European (Mediterranean) countries and communicate with them via e-mail or via instant messaging. They developed friendly relations with each other and shared details about their daily lives, traditions, cultures, perceptions, ideas, lifestyle.Establishing a common point of view of the past, students explored how the Mediterranean Sea is still the bridge between different cultures and religions.
All students developed their English language vocabulary and skills. They also developed their intercultural skills, exchanged ideas, gifts and postcards and also made use of a variety of resources in order to upload powerpoint presentations, documents, files and images about their countries on twinspace.
Last but not least students familiarised themselves with working in a virtual environment, identified and discussed the challenges they face living and working in them. The most important thing is that they made new friends and they gained insights from online school collaborations which will be valuable and worth remembering a life time.
Voki class
This document discusses using the Voki tool in a primary school in Croatia. The teacher introduced Voki to students to help them introduce themselves to students in other countries as part of an eTwinning project. Students learned how to create avatars and record their voices to add to the avatars. This helped students practice introductions in English. Using Voki allowed students to introduce themselves while protecting their privacy and safety. The teacher found that students were enthusiastic about using technology in learning and that Voki kept students engaged when listening to each other's introductions. The project helped make the teaching process more dynamic.

VLARINA - An eTwinning project 2012-13 (Greece-Serbia-Italy)
The Students participating in this project had the opportunity to meet fellow mates from other European (Mediterranean) countries and communicate with them via e-mail or via instant messaging. They developed friendly relations with each other and shared details about their daily lives, traditions, cultures, perceptions, ideas, lifestyle.Establishing a common point of view of the past, students explored how the Mediterranean Sea is still the bridge between different cultures and religions.
All students developed their English language vocabulary and skills. They also developed their intercultural skills, exchanged ideas, gifts and postcards and also made use of a variety of resources in order to upload powerpoint presentations, documents, files and images about their countries on twinspace.
Last but not least students familiarised themselves with working in a virtual environment, identified and discussed the challenges they face living and working in them. The most important thing is that they made new friends and they gained insights from online school collaborations which will be valuable and worth remembering a life time.
Voki class
This document discusses using the Voki tool in a primary school in Croatia. The teacher introduced Voki to students to help them introduce themselves to students in other countries as part of an eTwinning project. Students learned how to create avatars and record their voices to add to the avatars. This helped students practice introductions in English. Using Voki allowed students to introduce themselves while protecting their privacy and safety. The teacher found that students were enthusiastic about using technology in learning and that Voki kept students engaged when listening to each other's introductions. The project helped make the teaching process more dynamic.

This is our time • 'This is our Time’ is a fast paced, multilingual and intercultural global communications project for elementary and secondary schools, initiated for and developed in cooperation with the UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet). The ASPnet flagship project ‘This is our Time’ was originally launched on the occasion to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the UN and UNESCO on 16 November 1995. During a 24 hour online lesson marathon 40 schools from over 20 countries joined in Time activities, exchanged information and learned about and from each other.
