The United States consists of three main parts - the contiguous 48 states, Alaska, and Hawaii. It has three branches of government - the legislative Congress, the executive branch led by the President, and the judicial Supreme Court. The capital is Washington D.C. and the first President was George Washington. Some of the largest cities are New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
