This document provides guidance for evaluating urinary tract infections (UTIs) in patients aged 65 and older. It instructs that if a patient is over 65 and has two or more symptoms of dysuria, urgency, frequency, incontinence, rigors, flank/suprapubic pain, hematuria, or worsening confusion, to not dip their urine and instead send a sample in a red top bottle for microscopy, culture and sensitivity testing while documenting symptoms in the patient's record.
