This document summarizes an automatic point-of-care diagnostic platform that can identify a person's blood type in just 3 minutes, which is much faster and cheaper than other options. The portable device uses machine learning and computer vision to test blood samples. It has the potential to help the millions in need of blood transfusions worldwide each year and to expand to testing for other diseases. The startup team is seeking funding to complete clinical trials, obtain regulatory approvals, and launch the device commercially within 18 months to make an impact on global healthcare.

The document discusses the impacts of climate change on polar regions and the cryosphere. It notes that polar regions are melting faster than ever before, as evidenced by satellite data, submarine records, and long-term land measurements. This rapid melting is having significant consequences, including rising sea levels that threaten coastal cities, changes to ocean currents, and potential disruptions to weather patterns. One of the greatest threats is the melting of permafrost releasing large quantities of methane trapped underground for thousands of years, which could accelerate global warming further through a positive feedback loop. Experts warn that if current rates of Arctic sea ice loss continue, there may be virtually no September sea ice as early as 2015.
This document summarizes work presented at the 2nd ICOS science conference on September 27th, 2016 in Helsinki, Finland. It describes efforts to track greenhouse gas emissions in the growing city of Recife, Brazil through an atmospheric monitoring network and emission inventory development. A monitoring network was successfully installed and data collection is underway, with initial results suggesting high methane concentrations may be linked to mangrove wetlands and canals. An emission inventory was constructed and atmospheric modeling was performed to better understand fossil fuel and biogenic carbon dioxide fluxes in the city. Further analysis is ongoing to refine the modeling and conduct the first atmospheric inversions to estimate emissions.

Programs that generate citations can now output citations in the Citation File Format, which improves how computer programs are cited in research. This new format allows citations from software to be accurately included in reference lists. It also helps software to be discovered and credited as a research contribution like traditional publications. The presenters provided information on how the Citation File Format works and encouraged adoption of the new standard.

Title: Gravitational wave detection with orbital motion of Moon and artificial
Abstract:
In this talk I will describe some recent ideas to find gravitational waves from supermassive black holes or of primordial origin by studying their secular effect on the orbital motion of the Moon or satellites that are laser ranged.

The debris of the ‘last major merger’ is dynamically youngSérgio Sacani
The Milky Way’s (MW) inner stellar halo contains an [Fe/H]-rich component with highly eccentric orbits, often referred to as the
‘last major merger.’ Hypotheses for the origin of this component include Gaia-Sausage/Enceladus (GSE), where the progenitor
collided with the MW proto-disc 8–11 Gyr ago, and the Virgo Radial Merger (VRM), where the progenitor collided with the
MW disc within the last 3 Gyr. These two scenarios make different predictions about observable structure in local phase space,
because the morphology of debris depends on how long it has had to phase mix. The recently identified phase-space folds in Gaia
DR3 have positive caustic velocities, making them fundamentally different than the phase-mixed chevrons found in simulations
at late times. Roughly 20 per cent of the stars in the prograde local stellar halo are associated with the observed caustics. Based
on a simple phase-mixing model, the observed number of caustics are consistent with a merger that occurred 1–2 Gyr ago.
We also compare the observed phase-space distribution to FIRE-2 Latte simulations of GSE-like mergers, using a quantitative
measurement of phase mixing (2D causticality). The observed local phase-space distribution best matches the simulated data
1–2 Gyr after collision, and certainly not later than 3 Gyr. This is further evidence that the progenitor of the ‘last major merger’
did not collide with the MW proto-disc at early times, as is thought for the GSE, but instead collided with the MW disc within
the last few Gyr, consistent with the body of work surrounding the VRM.
Or: Beyond linear.
Abstract: Equivariant neural networks are neural networks that incorporate symmetries. The nonlinear activation functions in these networks result in interesting nonlinear equivariant maps between simple representations, and motivate the key player of this talk: piecewise linear representation theory.
