 To role play an accident-related scenario. 
 To listmajor types of injuries that result from accidents 
 To analyze an accident (behaviors and age groups that are 
typically involved In accidents; issues of speed, impact, and 
collision; distractions) 
 To discuss types of injuries associated with driving accidents 
To fill in an Accident Report
 Choose one of the following accident-related 
scenarios:
Injured #1: Spinal Cord Injury: 
You're an accident victim making a report to a police officer: 
O Thrown from vehicle, not 
moving legs, but free to 
move hands, face up 
O Conscious, able to talk 
O Describes the following 
conditions: 
Extreme pain or 
pressure in the neck, 
head, or back 
Tingling or loss of 
sensation in the hand, 
fingers, feet, or toes
Injured #2: Shock Victim with Broken Bones: 
You're a reporter asking bystanders to describe a crash they 
witnessed 
O Either ultra‐conscious, 
restless, and anxious, or 
decreased level of 
consciousness 
O Weak and rapid pulse 
O Cold (possibly shivering) 
and wet skin, possibly pale 
O Breathing irregularly
Injured #3: Brain Injury 
You're at the hospital with an injured relative, explaining 
the doctor your relative fell off a fifth floor 
O Dilation of the pupils 
O Thirsty 
O Nauseous 
O Unable to move one arm, any 
movement causes sharp pain 
O Injured cannot remember 
details, the names of 
companions, where he/she 
lives
Injured #4: Burn victim in arms 
You're describing the damage from a fire to an insurance 
agent. 
Second degree burn: 
Swelling 
redness 
Inflammation 
Blistering of the skin 
Extreme pain
Injured #5 
You're on the phone with a 911 operator. 
O Got a shot. 
O Partial or complete loss of 
control over any part of the body 
O Abnormal band‐like sensations in 
the thorax (upper chest)—pain, 
pressure 
O Impaired breathing after injury 
O Unusual lumps on the head
Injured #6:Slipping on wet floor 
You're a victim reporting your ARP an accident 
O Slipping on a wet floor 
O pain of the injury 
O limited mobility 
O Sprain 
O Possible fracture
O Organize yourself in groups of 3 or 4 and 
start writing the dialogue for the role-play.
At the end of each class, rehearse with your 
group before the actual role playing
O Plan your time 
O Assign a role to each 
member of the group 
O Bring proper outfits on 
the day of the actual 
presentation
You will be evaluated
