This document provides instructions and guidance for students to create a promotional flyer or leaflet for a charity. It includes the following key points:
1) Students review existing charity flyers and identify elements they like or would change and features to include in their own flyer.
2) Students draft a 160-character text message promoting the charity flyer.
3) Using their charity logo's color scheme, students design their own flyer, focusing more on content than design.
4) Students develop their top five tips for creating an effective promotional flyer and combine ideas in groups. The class then votes on the best group tips.
2. ‘If cars could be controlled by
PlayStation-like controllers
should children be allowed to
drive? (Once they have passed
their virtual driving tests!)’
(Gilbert, 2007, p.73)
Think about your answer to this question, and be prepared to discuss it with
your partner.
4. Existing Leaflets and Flyers
-
In your groups you need to have a look at the leaflets
and flyers you have been given.
- You need to write down anything that you like about
the leaflet ad anything that you would change about
it.
- Also think about any of the features which you would
like to include in your leaflet or flyer.
- Think about what style of writing is used. For example
informative, persuasive.
5. Text Message
Write down what you feel needs to be included in a
promotional flyer.
Remember it is a text message, so you only have 160
characters, including spaces and punctuation.
6. Time to be creative
- Now it’s your turn to create an promotional flyer or
leaflet.
- Remember to include your logo on your leaflet.
- Think about the colour scheme that you have used in
your logo, this is what should be used for your leaflet.
- Be careful…don’t spend too much time thinking about
the design. The content is more important than how it
looks.
7. Helpful Tips

or leaflet in Microsoft Publisher.
