Heroin was originally believed to cure morphine addiction and tuberculosis in the 1890s. It is highly addictive, as addiction can form after just one use. Heroin is derived from morphine, which is derived from opium. It can be administered by sniffing, smoking, or injecting. Long term effects include damage to vital organs and increased risk of overdose due to developing a tolerance. There are currently no accepted medical uses for heroin.
