But the smaller tablet and smartphone form factors dictate a new user experience. Providing a meaningful mobile experience means much more than rolling out a mobile app. New “twitter-like” application activity streams represent a breakthrough because these streams can keep workers aware of updates while on the go. However, activity streams represent the next major source of information overload, since unmitigated streams create a ‘stream of unconsciousness’ that is impossible to follow. Automated filtering and context-aware technology provide some hope, but these technologies are still in their infancy. Project Scope
The project will comprise of a network design to meet Acme Corporation network infrastructure requirements. The network should accommodate occasional guest users of up to 10 users. The network design will incorporate an FTP server that will use for sharing files. The project should involve separate subnet for guest and LAN networks; the guest network should be restricted to access only FTP service on the FTP server while all other access to the LAN network will be blocked. The project will also involve IP Network Design as well as identification and configuration details of the hardware utilized (Switches and Routers). Included in the network design is the implementation of a Wireless LAN (WLAN) that minimizes the management effort to configure and manage while allowing effective data transmission between the Wireless Application Protocols (WAPs).
Network design
The network will use a star topology where it provides centralized handling of the network and its’ associated security. Each of the floors of the building will have a central server which host switches that link the different rooms via ethernet cables. Each of the rooms will have a switch that is linked to the central server's router. The servers will be linked via fiber optic cables. The ethernet cables will be utilized for connecting individual devices to their associated switches. The network design will involve the utilization of both wired and wireless media. The wireless media will allow for a network connection for portable devices like tablets, cell phones, and laptops.
The switch links allow the traffic getting into the Acme’s LAN from the MAN not to be congested. As more tablets are utilized in the company, the WLAN bandwidth increases significantly to each room. This requires that the WAPs supporting the 802.11n protocol as well as faster 802.11ac standard require additional power. As a result, switches with PoE+ give the required power. These Switches utilize the existing Category-6 cable (Ethernet cables) that allow for remote administration and configuration (Karris, 2009).
Virtual LANs (VLAN) will be used to enables the network administrator to group users into shared broadcast domains irrespective of their physical position in the internetwork. For instance, computer devices utilized by employees on two different floors may be placed on the same VLAN. The staff has their VLAN while the Guest VLAN is used by guests when using wireless access points.
The company's network perimeter that detaches it from the Internet comprises of two border core routers. The border routers should then link to the Virtual Private Network (VPN) Gateway. The Routers link to the servers, wireless access points and switches as well as the LAN (internal network)..

Project Scope
The project will comprise of a network design to meet Acme Corporation network infrastructure requirements. The network should accommodate occasional guest users of up to 10 users. The network design will incorporate an FTP server that will use for sharing files. The project should involve separate subnet for guest and LAN networks; the guest network should be restricted to access only FTP service on the FTP server while all other access to the LAN network will be blocked. The project will also involve IP Network Design as well as identification and configuration details of the hardware utilized (Switches and Routers). Included in the network design is the implementation of a Wireless LAN (WLAN) that minimizes the management effort to configure and manage while allowing effective data transmission between the Wireless Application Protocols (WAPs).
Network design
The network will use a star topology where it provides centralized handling of the network and its’ associated security. Each of the floors of the building will have a central server which host switches that link the different rooms via ethernet cables. Each of the rooms will have a switch that is linked to the central server's router. The servers will be linked via fiber optic cables. The ethernet cables will be utilized for connecting individual devices to their associated switches. The network design will involve the utilization of both wired and wireless media. The wireless media will allow for a network connection for portable devices like tablets, cell phones, and laptops.
The switch links allow the traffic getting into the Acme’s LAN from the MAN not to be congested. As more tablets are utilized in the company, the WLAN bandwidth increases significantly to each room. This requires that the WAPs supporting the 802.11n protocol as well as faster 802.11ac standard require additional power. As a result, switches with PoE+ give the required power. These Switches utilize the existing Category-6 cable (Ethernet cables) that allow for remote administration and configuration (Karris, 2009).
Virtual LANs (VLAN) will be used to enables the network administrator to group users into shared broadcast domains irrespective of their physical position in the internetwork. For instance, computer devices utilized by employees on two different floors may be placed on the same VLAN. The staff has their VLAN while the Guest VLAN is used by guests when using wireless access points.
The company's network perimeter that detaches it from the Internet comprises of two border core routers. The border routers should then link to the Virtual Private Network (VPN) Gateway. The Routers link to the servers, wireless access points and switches as well as the LAN (internal network)..

- 2. Introduction For many businesses and organizations, options about where they would like to go with networking can be disappointing and tedious if there is no IT professional available. Many times businesses are limited to depend on the quality of service at exorbitant costs without knowledge of newer, more efficient and cost-effective options.
- 3. The standard for all network connections is a Local Area Network that connect computers to the internet in a central location. LAN’s connect computers, printers, servers, IP phones, or gateways. Choosing the right network solutions for the organization is imperative to the services that are provided to clients. As technology increases, businesses also have to adapt to the wide ranging forms of communication with those clients.
- 4. Switches versus hubs for networking A hub is one of the most basic networking devices that forwards data to network traffic. A computer sends the data through a hub that is connected to the networking port and forwards the data to all connected outlets. The networking applications on other attached devices determine whether the information is useful or needs to be discarded.
- 5. Switches Switches and hubs perform similar functions in a network, but switches go even further to assess each packet of data and distribute the data according to the routing address it needs to follow. Switches map the paths of Ethernet addresses of network segments for the intended intersection of information, and only allow essential data to pass through the switch. Switches inspect and keep logs of the internet protocol network addresses of connected machines and forwards data only to the intended recipient instead of simply broadcasting data over the entire network. Switches also prevent the distribution of erroneous data packets by not allowing them to proceed which diminishes collision and alleviates network obstruction.
- 6. Graphical depiction shows an example of attaching devices to the SAN – Storage Area Network and NAS – Network Attached Storage for companies to access and share data. Companies that need to share and receive information from the network generally use Star topography for the synchronicity to the organization’s data.
