Arcade games originated in the 1930s with coin-operated pinball machines and genres like rhythm games and rail shooters became popular in the late 1990s. While gaming PCs cost more initially, they provide longer lasting use than game consoles which release new models every 2-4 years at additional cost. Handheld devices are increasingly becoming like mini gaming PCs to compete with app and game-focused companies. Console gaming may have lower initial costs but owners face higher long-term expenses with new console releases every few years.
