This document defines and compares different types of settlements in Spain, from smallest to largest: a settlement is a village or town, a municipality includes a settlement and surrounding land where people often work similar jobs, regions comprise multiple municipalities, provinces are larger political divisions, and autonomous communities are the largest administrative divisions, some containing a single province while others contain multiple provinces. Spain itself is comprised of the Iberian Peninsula, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, and North African cities of Ceuta and Melilla.
