FADE IN:
INT. BEDROOM - DAY
A boy named MALIK gets out of bed to start his day. He rubs his eyes. He
stares at the window all tired and his phone vibrates with a text message,
he looks at the message and then he gets up and stretches wide. He walks out
of his room and goes to his bathroom. He washes his face and brushes his
teeth. After this, he goes downstairs to the room where his music equipment
is set up and he loads up his music production software on the computer.
MALIK presses a key on his keyboard and a sound comes out from the computer.
MALIK:
(rubs his hands together and
takes a breath)
Let’s do this.
MALIK presses the space bar on his computer keyboard to start recording and
he presses a chord on his keyboard piano. The music he produces starts
playing. He is focused on the cords he is playing and then when the drums
come in he starts messing between the lowest 12 keys. He is focused on the
beat and he starts playing more notes. After, he is enjoying the beat. When
he is finished he receives a text message from his friend saying, “Where are
you? You’re gonna be late for school.”
MALIK
(eyes wide open, closed hand
near his lips)
Oh, shit!
MALIK runs back upstairs in his room to get ready.
FADE OUT
FADE IN
EXT. OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL - DAY
MALIK looks up to the school and takes a big breath and he walks inside.
Looking around and wandering, he walks at a slow place. While he is looking
around, a group of boys walks around from the corner and MALIK bumps into
them. They come close to MALIK and the main group leader approaches him.
MAIN GROUP LEADER
You trying to cause beef, fam?
MALIK
Nah fam, never meant to step in your way?

MAIN GROUP LEADER
Then watch where you’re going waste man.
MALIK
Don’t call me a waste man, sideman.
THE REST OF THE GROUP
(all in unison)
Ooooooooooooooooooooh!
MAIN GROUP LEADER
(comes up right in his face)
Who you think you’re calling sideman? Don’t
make me box you, you know.
MALIK
Whatever fam, move out my face, with your
dutty breath.
MAIN GROUP LEADER
Yo fam, who you think you’re talking to,
bruv? Don’t get cheeky with me fam, I’ll box
you right on this spot.
MALIK
If you’re bad go on then, stop trying to
stunt in front of your mandem to make
yourself look good.
MAIN GROUP LEADER
So you wanna start then? Come den fam, we’ll
do this right on this spot.
MALIK and THE MAIN GROUP LEADER look at each other, ready to fight.
MALIK
Come then fam, don’t see I’ll spin ya jaw
brudda. Don't care if you’re a big man, size
don't matter to me uno.
MAIN GROUP LEADER
(pushes Malik)
I can bruk you up easy, fam! Don't see I will
do this.
MALIK pushes THE MAIN GROUP LEADER and he loses balance and falls on the
ground. The group look at him and THE MAIN GROUP LEADER looks at MALIK. THE
MAIN GROUP LEADER gets up quick and is ready to swing for MALIK. One of the
group member stop the MAIN GROUP LEADER.
GROUP MEMBER 1
Yo, fam… I beg you allow it. We ain’t got
time for this!
THE MAIN GROUP LEADER looks at the GROUP MEMBER intimidatingly for about 5
seconds and turns around back to MALIK.

THE MAIN GROUP LEADER
Aite, we’ll lowe this yute. But next time, we
come clash again, I’ll leng a man down!
The whole group leave MALIK alone and walk off. MALIK looks at them and then
he walks off to his lesson.
FADE OUT
FADE IN:
INT. SCHOOL CLASSROOM - DAY
MALIK walks into his classroom to see that the group he clashed into earlier
is in the same class as him. THE MAIN GROUP LEADER and MALIK look at each
other with tension. This goes on for about 10 seconds until the tension is
disrupted by the TEACHER.
TEACHER
(stares at MALIK, broadly
says)
MALIK, you’re late!
MALIK looks at the teacher and walks to his seat. The teacher’s eyes follow
MALIK to his seat. He proceeds to teaching his lesson.
TEACHER
So, if there are numbers 7 and 10 in the
equation x squared plus 7x plus 10, which two
numbers add to make 7 and multiply to make
10? Anyone?
MALIK
(puts his hand up, quickly)
2 and 5, sir.
TEACHER
That’s the wrong answer, MALIK!
THE MAIN GROUP LEADER
The answer is 2 and 5, sir!
TEACHER
Correct!
MALIK
(puzzled)
But sir, I just said that!
TEACHER
Well I didn’t hear you, did I? Speak louder
next time.
MALIK sighs and the TEACHER proceeds with his lesson. The group that MALIK
collided with gathers up and has a little conversation.

THE MAIN GROUP LEADER
(whispering)
You see that yute over there?
GROUP MEMBER 1
(whispering)
That yute, MALIK?
THE MAIN GROUP LEADER
(whispering)
Ye, ye, ye, ye. Let’s say we get him in
trouble, init?
GROUP MEMBER 2
(whispering)
How we gonna do this tho? Gotta find a way
init.
TEACHER
(not looking, bluntly)
MALIK, stop talking.
MALIK
I wasn’t even talki…
TEACHER
(talks over MALIK)
I don’t care! If you’re gonna be in here, you
better shut up!
The TEACHER turns back around and MALIK puts his head down and THE GANG
continues to talk.
MAIN GROUP LEADER
(whispering)
Let’s say we get this teacher bex… dash a
couple of papers at his head back.
GROUP MEMBER 3
(whispering)
Ye ye ye ye, fam. This lesson’s dead anyway.
The GROUP come out of discussion and proceed to listen to the teacher.
TEACHER
So, guys… I will let you proceed with the
questions that I have given you on the board.
The TEACHER turns around and the GROUP prepare pieces of paper to throw at
the teacher. THE MAIN GROUP LEADER does the first throw and it hits the
TEACHER’s back. The TEACHER turns around quickly.
TEACHER
(looking at MALIK)
Whoever was that, you better stop now!

The TEACHER stares at MALIK suspiciously and turns back around and GROUP
MEMBER 2 takes the second throw. It hits the TEACHER’s back again and he
turns back and looks straight at MALIK.
TEACHER
MALIK! Stop throwing paper at me! And do your
work!
MALIK
(quite quickly)
But sir! I was doing my work.
TEACHER
If you say so…
The TEACHER turns back once again. GROUP MEMBER 4, which is the quietest,
takes the third throw and finally hits it in his head. The TEACHER gets up
in a rage, with his eyes locked onto MALIK.
TEACHER
(shouting)
MALIK! How dare you come in here and throw
pieces of paper at me!
MALIK
But sir! That wasn’t me! I was doing my work!
TEACHER
(shouting)
NO you wasn’t MALIK! I saw you with my own
eyes! I saw you throw that paper!
MALIK
Sir! I swear down it wasn’t me! Touchwood… I
had the pen and pap…
TEACHER
(overlaps MALIK)
Shut your mouth, boy! I will not tolerate
your back chatting! With your attitude and
behavior, you will get nowhere in life! The
only thing you will become is a reject and a
failure! Even if your life depended on your
stupid little music “talent!”
The TEACHER stares at MALIK angrily and then a knock on the door is heard.
The headteacher stands up and turns around and starts to act fake. The
HEADTEACHER opens up the door.
HEADTEACHER
Hello, is a student called MALIK in here? I
need him in my office as soon as possible.
TEACHER
(fake accent)
Ermm, yes! Indeed.

(turns to MALIK, fake smile)
MALIK, would you go with the head teacher to
his office please?
MALIK gets up out of his seat and walks slowly to the HEADTEACHER. The
TEACHER approaches him and whispers in his ear.
TEACHER
(whispers)
I’m assuming you’re gonna get kicked out…
Good luck getting D’s, E’s and F’s in your
exams.
MALIK walks out with the HEADTEACHER
FADE OUT
FADE IN
INT. HEADTEACHER’S OFFICE - DAY
The HEADTEACHER and MALIK walk in and MALIK recognizes a famous producer
called KAI-ZAA. MALIK’s expressions suddenly change and he is panting
heavily.
KAI-ZAA
MALIK right?
MALIK
(panting heavily)
Yeah.
KAI-ZAA
Well, today is your lucky day. You see, I’ve
come here to find one specific person. And
that… is you. See I was streaming the sound
cloud and band camp database and suddenly
stumbled across you. Now… I took out time to
listen to all the tracks that you’ve made,
and they are brilliant. I’ve come across
different people who have phenomenal talent,
buy you… you are something else man.
MALIK’s eyes widen in excitement and he starts panting a bit again.
KAI-ZAA
Now, MALIK. Since me and you are in close
region, I’m willing to give the opportunity
to come and be a music producer and make a
name for yourself! I know you’re in the
middle of exam season, but when you get into
college, we can start producing music now and
then! So, if you’re up to it, please sign
this contract to sign up to my record label

GOLD-PLATE records. We have a love for future
beats!
MALIK gets ready to sign the paper, but he rethinks about this. He turns to
the HEADTEACHER to question him.
MALIK
Wait! What about the rest of my exams? I mean
I’ve still got to take them. I mean, I’m down
for this but I’m concerned if I have to drop
the rest of my exams for this.
HEADTEACHER
MALIK. Do not worry. We will put you on study
leave from now, so you’ll able to do the rest
of your exams. We want the best for you
MALIK, so you can go on study leave from now.
I’m sure if you sign this contract, KAI-ZAA
will give you time to finish and you’ll be
able to start within the six weeks or
something.
MALIK daydreams like he did not hear what the HEADTEACHER said. But he
realises what the HEADTEACHER has said.
MALIK
Ok then, I’m up for it. Lets sign this
contract, then.
MALIK grabs the pen and signs the contract. He walks back up to his
classroom with KAI-ZAA to get his stuff. As he walks back in, the TEACHER
and the whole class stare at him as he walks to get his stuff.
INT. CLASSROOM - DAY
TEACHER
So what did the headteacher say… You’re
getting kicked out then for your attitude
with me and the other teachers?
KAI-ZAA eaves drops at the TEACHER and MALIK’s conversation.
MALIK
What do you think, sir?
TEACHER
Your getting kicked out, yeah? I guess you
won’t be able to finish exams this season and
will only have 5 GCSE’s, good luck with
getting a job while in college boy.
MALIK does not care, walks out the door and KAI-ZAA comes in looking at the
TEACHER. The whole class is in shock as they recognize KAI-ZAA as a famous
producer.

KAI-ZAA
What’s your problem with this boy, he hasn’t
done anything wrong?
TEACHER
(rolls his eyes)
Well, you wouldn’t understand how bad this
pupil is, he’s getting kicked out anyway, so
what’s the bother?
KAI-ZAA
No, he is not getting kicked out. He is with
me. I am KAI-ZAA, a very well known producer
around here. Most of the pupils in the class
know who I am. So, keep on slandering this
boy about the supposedly “bad behavior.” He
wont care when his music is in the top charts
and you’re here working a struggle job as a
damn teacher with bags under your eyes,
having to pay 5p each for them. Have a nice
day sir.
The whole class rumbles with a number of ‘oohs’ as the TEACHER stands there
after being shut down. The TEACHER stares at KAI-ZAA suspiciously as KAI-ZAA
walks out with MALIK. Before MALIK and KAI-ZAA go, THE MAIN GROUP LEADER
runs to MALIK.
THE MAIN GROUP LEADER
Yo, MALIK what about me fam! Lowe that clash
we had earlier bruv. Imma come with you
still.
MALIK
Nah fam, you wanna make friends wid me all of
a sudden cause I’m on bigger tings… Nahh,
stay in school kid.
THE MAIN GROUP LEADER feels hurt and heavily stares at MALIK for 5 seconds.
The MAIN GROUP LEADER walks back in the classroom.
EXT. OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL - DAY
MALIK, KAI-ZAA and the HEADTEACHER walk out.
HEADTEACHER
Good luck on this musical journey, MALIK! I
wish all the best for you.
MALIK
Thank you, sir! I’m hoping the best is yet to
come.
The HEADTEACHER does a salute to MALIK and MALIK returns the favor. MALIK
and KAI-ZAA walk out of the school together, having a little conversation
about what is going to happen.

MALIK
So KAI-ZAA, what’s gonna happen with this
music thing then?
KAI-ZAA
Well, soon as you’re finished with exams, we
can start making some tracks, also promoting
some of your tracks with the record label. In
no time, you make a name for yourself and you
can blow up a name for yourself in a few
weeks.
MALIK and KAI-ZAA walk out the school.
FADES OUT
END.

UNIT 11 LO3 SCRIPT FOR 5-7 MINUTE FILM

  • 2. 1. FADE IN: INT. BEDROOM - DAY A boy named MALIK gets out of bed to start his day. He rubs his eyes. He stares at the window all tired and his phone vibrates with a text message, he looks at the message and then he gets up and stretches wide. He walks out of his room and goes to his bathroom. He washes his face and brushes his teeth. After this, he goes downstairs to the room where his music equipment is set up and he loads up his music production software on the computer. MALIK presses a key on his keyboard and a sound comes out from the computer. MALIK: (rubs his hands together and takes a breath) Let’s do this. MALIK presses the space bar on his computer keyboard to start recording and he presses a chord on his keyboard piano. The music he produces starts playing. He is focused on the cords he is playing and then when the drums come in he starts messing between the lowest 12 keys. He is focused on the beat and he starts playing more notes. After, he is enjoying the beat. When he is finished he receives a text message from his friend saying, “Where are you? You’re gonna be late for school.” MALIK (eyes wide open, closed hand near his lips) Oh, shit! MALIK runs back upstairs in his room to get ready. FADE OUT FADE IN EXT. OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL - DAY MALIK looks up to the school and takes a big breath and he walks inside. Looking around and wandering, he walks at a slow place. While he is looking around, a group of boys walks around from the corner and MALIK bumps into them. They come close to MALIK and the main group leader approaches him. MAIN GROUP LEADER You trying to cause beef, fam? MALIK Nah fam, never meant to step in your way?
  • 3. 2. MAIN GROUP LEADER Then watch where you’re going waste man. MALIK Don’t call me a waste man, sideman. THE REST OF THE GROUP (all in unison) Ooooooooooooooooooooh! MAIN GROUP LEADER (comes up right in his face) Who you think you’re calling sideman? Don’t make me box you, you know. MALIK Whatever fam, move out my face, with your dutty breath. MAIN GROUP LEADER Yo fam, who you think you’re talking to, bruv? Don’t get cheeky with me fam, I’ll box you right on this spot. MALIK If you’re bad go on then, stop trying to stunt in front of your mandem to make yourself look good. MAIN GROUP LEADER So you wanna start then? Come den fam, we’ll do this right on this spot. MALIK and THE MAIN GROUP LEADER look at each other, ready to fight. MALIK Come then fam, don’t see I’ll spin ya jaw brudda. Don't care if you’re a big man, size don't matter to me uno. MAIN GROUP LEADER (pushes Malik) I can bruk you up easy, fam! Don't see I will do this. MALIK pushes THE MAIN GROUP LEADER and he loses balance and falls on the ground. The group look at him and THE MAIN GROUP LEADER looks at MALIK. THE MAIN GROUP LEADER gets up quick and is ready to swing for MALIK. One of the group member stop the MAIN GROUP LEADER. GROUP MEMBER 1 Yo, fam… I beg you allow it. We ain’t got time for this! THE MAIN GROUP LEADER looks at the GROUP MEMBER intimidatingly for about 5 seconds and turns around back to MALIK.
  • 4. 3. THE MAIN GROUP LEADER Aite, we’ll lowe this yute. But next time, we come clash again, I’ll leng a man down! The whole group leave MALIK alone and walk off. MALIK looks at them and then he walks off to his lesson. FADE OUT FADE IN: INT. SCHOOL CLASSROOM - DAY MALIK walks into his classroom to see that the group he clashed into earlier is in the same class as him. THE MAIN GROUP LEADER and MALIK look at each other with tension. This goes on for about 10 seconds until the tension is disrupted by the TEACHER. TEACHER (stares at MALIK, broadly says) MALIK, you’re late! MALIK looks at the teacher and walks to his seat. The teacher’s eyes follow MALIK to his seat. He proceeds to teaching his lesson. TEACHER So, if there are numbers 7 and 10 in the equation x squared plus 7x plus 10, which two numbers add to make 7 and multiply to make 10? Anyone? MALIK (puts his hand up, quickly) 2 and 5, sir. TEACHER That’s the wrong answer, MALIK! THE MAIN GROUP LEADER The answer is 2 and 5, sir! TEACHER Correct! MALIK (puzzled) But sir, I just said that! TEACHER Well I didn’t hear you, did I? Speak louder next time. MALIK sighs and the TEACHER proceeds with his lesson. The group that MALIK collided with gathers up and has a little conversation.
  • 5. 4. THE MAIN GROUP LEADER (whispering) You see that yute over there? GROUP MEMBER 1 (whispering) That yute, MALIK? THE MAIN GROUP LEADER (whispering) Ye, ye, ye, ye. Let’s say we get him in trouble, init? GROUP MEMBER 2 (whispering) How we gonna do this tho? Gotta find a way init. TEACHER (not looking, bluntly) MALIK, stop talking. MALIK I wasn’t even talki… TEACHER (talks over MALIK) I don’t care! If you’re gonna be in here, you better shut up! The TEACHER turns back around and MALIK puts his head down and THE GANG continues to talk. MAIN GROUP LEADER (whispering) Let’s say we get this teacher bex… dash a couple of papers at his head back. GROUP MEMBER 3 (whispering) Ye ye ye ye, fam. This lesson’s dead anyway. The GROUP come out of discussion and proceed to listen to the teacher. TEACHER So, guys… I will let you proceed with the questions that I have given you on the board. The TEACHER turns around and the GROUP prepare pieces of paper to throw at the teacher. THE MAIN GROUP LEADER does the first throw and it hits the TEACHER’s back. The TEACHER turns around quickly. TEACHER (looking at MALIK) Whoever was that, you better stop now!
  • 6. 5. The TEACHER stares at MALIK suspiciously and turns back around and GROUP MEMBER 2 takes the second throw. It hits the TEACHER’s back again and he turns back and looks straight at MALIK. TEACHER MALIK! Stop throwing paper at me! And do your work! MALIK (quite quickly) But sir! I was doing my work. TEACHER If you say so… The TEACHER turns back once again. GROUP MEMBER 4, which is the quietest, takes the third throw and finally hits it in his head. The TEACHER gets up in a rage, with his eyes locked onto MALIK. TEACHER (shouting) MALIK! How dare you come in here and throw pieces of paper at me! MALIK But sir! That wasn’t me! I was doing my work! TEACHER (shouting) NO you wasn’t MALIK! I saw you with my own eyes! I saw you throw that paper! MALIK Sir! I swear down it wasn’t me! Touchwood… I had the pen and pap… TEACHER (overlaps MALIK) Shut your mouth, boy! I will not tolerate your back chatting! With your attitude and behavior, you will get nowhere in life! The only thing you will become is a reject and a failure! Even if your life depended on your stupid little music “talent!” The TEACHER stares at MALIK angrily and then a knock on the door is heard. The headteacher stands up and turns around and starts to act fake. The HEADTEACHER opens up the door. HEADTEACHER Hello, is a student called MALIK in here? I need him in my office as soon as possible. TEACHER (fake accent) Ermm, yes! Indeed.
  • 7. 6. (turns to MALIK, fake smile) MALIK, would you go with the head teacher to his office please? MALIK gets up out of his seat and walks slowly to the HEADTEACHER. The TEACHER approaches him and whispers in his ear. TEACHER (whispers) I’m assuming you’re gonna get kicked out… Good luck getting D’s, E’s and F’s in your exams. MALIK walks out with the HEADTEACHER FADE OUT FADE IN INT. HEADTEACHER’S OFFICE - DAY The HEADTEACHER and MALIK walk in and MALIK recognizes a famous producer called KAI-ZAA. MALIK’s expressions suddenly change and he is panting heavily. KAI-ZAA MALIK right? MALIK (panting heavily) Yeah. KAI-ZAA Well, today is your lucky day. You see, I’ve come here to find one specific person. And that… is you. See I was streaming the sound cloud and band camp database and suddenly stumbled across you. Now… I took out time to listen to all the tracks that you’ve made, and they are brilliant. I’ve come across different people who have phenomenal talent, buy you… you are something else man. MALIK’s eyes widen in excitement and he starts panting a bit again. KAI-ZAA Now, MALIK. Since me and you are in close region, I’m willing to give the opportunity to come and be a music producer and make a name for yourself! I know you’re in the middle of exam season, but when you get into college, we can start producing music now and then! So, if you’re up to it, please sign this contract to sign up to my record label
  • 8. 7. GOLD-PLATE records. We have a love for future beats! MALIK gets ready to sign the paper, but he rethinks about this. He turns to the HEADTEACHER to question him. MALIK Wait! What about the rest of my exams? I mean I’ve still got to take them. I mean, I’m down for this but I’m concerned if I have to drop the rest of my exams for this. HEADTEACHER MALIK. Do not worry. We will put you on study leave from now, so you’ll able to do the rest of your exams. We want the best for you MALIK, so you can go on study leave from now. I’m sure if you sign this contract, KAI-ZAA will give you time to finish and you’ll be able to start within the six weeks or something. MALIK daydreams like he did not hear what the HEADTEACHER said. But he realises what the HEADTEACHER has said. MALIK Ok then, I’m up for it. Lets sign this contract, then. MALIK grabs the pen and signs the contract. He walks back up to his classroom with KAI-ZAA to get his stuff. As he walks back in, the TEACHER and the whole class stare at him as he walks to get his stuff. INT. CLASSROOM - DAY TEACHER So what did the headteacher say… You’re getting kicked out then for your attitude with me and the other teachers? KAI-ZAA eaves drops at the TEACHER and MALIK’s conversation. MALIK What do you think, sir? TEACHER Your getting kicked out, yeah? I guess you won’t be able to finish exams this season and will only have 5 GCSE’s, good luck with getting a job while in college boy. MALIK does not care, walks out the door and KAI-ZAA comes in looking at the TEACHER. The whole class is in shock as they recognize KAI-ZAA as a famous producer.
  • 9. 8. KAI-ZAA What’s your problem with this boy, he hasn’t done anything wrong? TEACHER (rolls his eyes) Well, you wouldn’t understand how bad this pupil is, he’s getting kicked out anyway, so what’s the bother? KAI-ZAA No, he is not getting kicked out. He is with me. I am KAI-ZAA, a very well known producer around here. Most of the pupils in the class know who I am. So, keep on slandering this boy about the supposedly “bad behavior.” He wont care when his music is in the top charts and you’re here working a struggle job as a damn teacher with bags under your eyes, having to pay 5p each for them. Have a nice day sir. The whole class rumbles with a number of ‘oohs’ as the TEACHER stands there after being shut down. The TEACHER stares at KAI-ZAA suspiciously as KAI-ZAA walks out with MALIK. Before MALIK and KAI-ZAA go, THE MAIN GROUP LEADER runs to MALIK. THE MAIN GROUP LEADER Yo, MALIK what about me fam! Lowe that clash we had earlier bruv. Imma come with you still. MALIK Nah fam, you wanna make friends wid me all of a sudden cause I’m on bigger tings… Nahh, stay in school kid. THE MAIN GROUP LEADER feels hurt and heavily stares at MALIK for 5 seconds. The MAIN GROUP LEADER walks back in the classroom. EXT. OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL - DAY MALIK, KAI-ZAA and the HEADTEACHER walk out. HEADTEACHER Good luck on this musical journey, MALIK! I wish all the best for you. MALIK Thank you, sir! I’m hoping the best is yet to come. The HEADTEACHER does a salute to MALIK and MALIK returns the favor. MALIK and KAI-ZAA walk out of the school together, having a little conversation about what is going to happen.
  • 10. 9. MALIK So KAI-ZAA, what’s gonna happen with this music thing then? KAI-ZAA Well, soon as you’re finished with exams, we can start making some tracks, also promoting some of your tracks with the record label. In no time, you make a name for yourself and you can blow up a name for yourself in a few weeks. MALIK and KAI-ZAA walk out the school. FADES OUT END.
